Shout out to Annikras and Micksam7 for demo captured goodness
category: offtopic [glöplog]
Totally made my day guys.
Thumbs up for both! and the rest mentioned!
Wow that's something I didn't expect at all. Thanks for your posts, this really makes me happy :-)
I have of course to thank all the sceners writing the wonderful demos. You let me dive into a wonderful world I follow and love since many years now. Thanks alot !
ps: If you want a certain (windows) demo to be ripped, drop me a message on Youtube or find me on IRC. :D

You have my respect dudes. And also those who capture(d) from time to time. Without you I could not watch (and show) some of the demos I like.
Thank you for your devotion and your private time put into this quite time-consuming hobby.

What everybody said :)

What everybody except BackSpace said. ;)
(Seriously, since Anni has started capturing like mad, I got myself a YouTube download script and now have a nice directory full of demo captures on my NAS. Perfect match for any DLNA capable TV :)

where's the "like" button
What mystra said. Everyone was telling samson to fuck off even after he submitted his youtube links in the fix me thread. Now people get praised for their captures here... Strange, indeed.
I'm also very thankful for those nice (and really fast!) demorips from Annikras and of course also for the videos from other persons.
Thanks alot! Also, what qmotvs said :D
Please continue your great work and don't let you get down by idiots like MSW.

As a brief aside I was experimenting with JDownloader and saw that one of the videos had offered the original source capture for download!
2880x1620 (!) and at a ridiculously high bitrate, check the resolution selector in this video:

I had no idea YouTube were supporting this kind of functionality.
Food for thought.

Youtube supports higher resolutions since a bit more than a year now and videos that need extremly high bitrates are scaled up by me (4k with lots of noise/distortions/fractals for example).
Here is some examples that look much better in setting "original size" than in setting "1080p".
Inflorescence by mfx (18 Mbps)
ambience by Quite (25 Mbps)
Michigan by Loonies (32 Mbps)
ino by Quite (24 Mbps)
Fermion by Kewlers (25 Mbps - yes, it's a 720p demo, but compare it to other yt uploads and you will clearly see a huge difference :))
Large Hedron Collider by TRSI (Here the Bitrate from Youtube Encoder went to crazy 62 Mbps!)

62 mbit rate on Youtube?? Wow, didn't know that was even possible!
Thanks!
thanks anni :)
Good work anni ;o)
Good work micksam7 ;o)

I'm wondering if there's a trick to make yt accept videos at >30fps, too ?
I've got a couple of dos captures at 70hz lying around but converting those to anything between 25..30 fps will just screw it up...
Yeah, it would be nice if they added support for higher fps. Even if only at lower res/bitrates it would be useful.
Especially demos for older systems would benefit from being able to run full framerate, so that scrollers etc. look better.

Sdw: Most people run their monitors at 60Hz (and most drivers/EDID blocks don't allow changing that, even if the screens themselves could) and your scrollers will still stutter when uploaded at the original 50pointsomething (or at the captured 50 which means one frame jump every few seconds anyway because oldschool hardware is missing half a line from the original signal and capture hardware either can't cope or just doesn't give a shit and buffers). Just convert to 30 using fancy motion compensating magic fairy dust unicorn thingies before uploading; will look better in most cases.
Btw: Suggestions for capturing 50/60Hz material and playing it back without so much as one dropped frame (on a screen set to the correct refresh rate) highly appreciated - our DV based stuff at BP/Revision is slowly getting old and smelly.
(don't bother to answer if you don't know a solution that works. Your conjecture won't protect you from the masses of drunk and hostile C64/Amiga sceners I'll send after your ass if it doesn't)

After several of my capturing adventures in both the Win32 and DOS world I can say that this is not always true. All fast-paced demos containg fast movement/screen flashes/scene changes/etc. benefit from a framerate higher than 25 or even 30fps.
