RIP Raster/C.P.U.
category: offtopic [glöplog]
I'm sad to announce that Radek Štěrba aka Raster died on 28th July 2011 in a train accident. He was great man (I know people usually say that but I _really_ mean it) and good friend of mine. Always supportive and kind.
He was also extremely talented, he made infamous Raster Tracker and loads of other Atari related stuff (games, demos, music,...) Rest in peace :(

RIP :(
Aw man, what a loss, i'll miss him. He was a big part of the (atari) scene...
Spoczywaj w Pokoju, Radek......
Let your family be strong...

Really sad to hear this. I never spoke much with him personally, but for anyone who's ever visited the Forever party it's clear to see how much of a cornerstone of the Atari scene he was... the one thing you could count on, year on year, was an entry from him in every single compo. Amazing enthusiasm, and a corner of the demoscene will be so much the poorer without his presence.
May his legacy be preserved.

R.i.P
He did about 140 releases for Atari. Gfx, msx, utils, games, demos, intros. This is all I could find from him at Youtube.

Clever 1Kb intro from forever 2010.

I hope some of his demos will appear at youtube eventually. Like Self Demo.. or Basics.. the latest demo from forever featuring chunky pixel animation of Michael Jackson dancing to Smooth Criminal was also quite cool. Especially because it wasn't pretending to be more than that. Very consistent approach.
Raster was one of the few remaining Foreverans (visitors of every Forever since 2000). 12 years of consistent support. He was also usually the first visitor to contact us (organizers) to remind us that Forever is close ;-). Overt he years I considered him more like co-organiser than just regular visitor. He even was at 2009 orga meeting at my place.
I'm really sad about this. But it's probably nothing compared to the sadness that his girlfriend must feel now. I don't know if she ever knew about huge VIP status of Raster around Atari scene and generally around the community that grew around Forever parties over the years.
Rest in Peace Radek. You have my eternal respect. I will never forget you. You have been inspiration for all of us for all those years. Thank you.

Just in case. Here is stuff by C.P.U. at Pouet, mostly (if not all) done by Raster: http://pouet.net/groups.php?which=4287
Let's just hope he's now in better world -- a land of endless hack.
shit happens and life goes on
but he's not dead as long as we remember.

I didn't know him personally but i knew his successful Atari productions. I noticed his works especially when I got interested in Atari coding a few years ago. R.I.P
Rest in peace, man.
I knew him quite well as a college from the Atari scene. He was always very productive and full of clever ideas. He was THE real master of 6502+GTIA+ANTIC+POKEY. Btw. he was the one, who explained me Atari gfx modes and POKEY functions clearly. He was also really great musician, not only on Atari but also on synths. It's very sad, that he's gone. I will miss him at every Atari party, Bytefest and Forever. And I'm afraid noone can replace him in his thinking and sense of humor. Who will do compo slides for next Forever parties? Who will do funny and original intros/demos? And who will improve RMT? :( I'm sad.
This is so sad to hear. We exchanged some mails and I met him a couple of times at parties, last time this June. From there I remember him as a really friendly, funny and helpful person. He was a true Atari-expert with huge output. His demos, games, tools and hardware releases were technically impressive and full of clever ideas. E.g. he literally reinvented data-exchange with SDrive and music composing on Atari 800 with his Raster Music Tracker. Thank you for all that!

The demo that more or less started it all for Atari section at Forever parties. Thanx also to Raster, Forever parties became a major event for Atari demoscene which has strongest presence in Poland nowadays.
