Idea: Charts at pouet.net

216: word!! What is all this things about charts?
Why not doing casting shows? :-)

zplex: very good idea. :) though; that means that someone would have to add those fields to the prod-pages, and then we'd rely on the "honesty system" for the addition of credits, like "add nfo", "add party placement" etc. is today.
Hi all!
I'm happy that so many people are fond of my idea.
So, what's up, pouet.net admins? When are you going to install charts?
Cheers

tomcat? =)
individual charts based on prod credits is an even more idiotic idea than adok's original chart idea, and that's quite an achievement.
for example gfx artists or musicians tend to release a lot of stuff in, say, gfx/music compos at parties, which of course wouldn't be included in the charts.
i don't have a problem with the idea of charts as such, there's just a lot of ignorant fuckheads around nowadays and letting them vote provides mostly lame results (as we see at e.g. assembly each year).

reed: amen
moreover that should actually require an "user X involved in prod Y" feature for pouet - guess PS isn't really in the mood to code that which i can fully understand (even tho it may would be cool :)
gargaj: well, that has been on my todo list for quite some time before the charts idea popped. was talking with matti about it the night we did the user.php update even..
just need some free time and shit.. which i dont have even to finish updating the new party.php .. ill do it whenever.

charts for x,y and z would be great, but it would be a lot of work i guess, and i'm pretty sure it wouldn't work so well as we'd like. And there is already the top 10 (now extendable too, you can set it to 20 or whatever somewhere).
The only problem with the charts is it just shows the stuff which is popular, not necessarily the best stuff (which is often loved by some and hated by others). Something like a simple "favourite prod" in the account page, and a chart showing the popular favourite prods might be interesting, and so might a top 10 "both loved and hated" list.

Well at least let's have a chart based on thumbs. It makes it pointless otherwise cos people will always visit the top 10 first and foremost so they'll always be there unless some other demo (like Popular Demo) gets lots of publicity.
Or just erase the charts altogether cos they're pointless the way they are!

psonice: personal coup de couer's will come soon too.
will add ti to user.php as soon as i also bother adding the possibility to add the ojuice and slengpung id.
shane: step one was adding the thumb avg proper count the next one is making it sortable. on groups.php is quite easy to implement the only problem is really that im on holidays :)
and now for ideas for pouet that i _havent_ thought of yet....

Involved in prod x.. Gargaj! stop stealing my ideas from irc :-)
Anyways, it would be fun to see all theese leet people suddenly not being so leet anymore after having found out they only where involved in joke prods or no prods... :)

NO CHARTS FOR ME, BUT THANKS FOR ASKING :D
As funny as it is to have 4 own prods in the top10, how about making the whole popularity/ranking system a bit more dynamic?
The base idea is easy: Let the popularity (which is only a hit counter after all) diminish over time. Let's say write a small cron script and subtract half a percent popularity per day - this would let a 100% prod (if nobody ever visited the page) drop to 50% after five months or to 16% after a year.
Considering that good/popular/current demos get the most hits, the top ranking list should become a more representative list of what's currently hot and what ain't. In its current form you could rather rename it to "alltime votefakers" ;) (thx radman again for that slashdot link)
(damn, this was the first forum post of my life for which I needed Windows calc.exe to write it ;)

ps: yeah, the personal coup de couer hits it right on the head! Any chance of a "top 10 personal coup de couer" too?
Now, we just need people to actually understand what coup de couer means... ;D

i want my personal top 10!
btw, i honestly think that any chart these days should make a distinction between the "all time best" and the "currently best", that is, two different charts for each category.
there are people who've been voting for the same stuff/people for 10 years because they haven't seen anything better since then (or because they haven't seen any new stuff at all), and then there are people who vote only for new stuff because they think the other kind of people are silly. this is another thing that makes the results sort of false.
the new worldcharts tried something similar by having "best oldschool" categories, but in that case you'd have to determine what's oldschool and what's not, and we all know the debate about that can go on for ages.

i'd still like the top 10 of personal coup d'couers for a hopefully more interesting chart. But just a few other easy to add type chart ideas:
top 10 prods released this month / within 30 days
top 10 prods released last year or older
most thumbed up prods
most discussed prods (hugi 29 would probably be in this one ;)
most controversial prods (ones with a lot of thumb ups and a lot of thumb downs too)
I'm not suggesting thats a comprehensive list, or that all should be added, but those would be reasonable to add and might make for more interesting charts...

psonice: well, i been thinking of allowing more intricous sortings on the prodlist.php and that should really help abit..
about the whole coup the coeur thing, this 1 personal was just a small test, im gonna redo it to allow more then 1, and ofcourse had the little heart next to your comment on prod.php and put the <3 count on groups.php and small top of the hearts charts (even though they'll be somewhat similar to popularity imho but we'll see)
anyways, its on todo list for september.

I think one of these charts should be relatively easy to do, and would describe more accurately the quality of the prod instead of the how-many-clicks-popularity-o-meter:
thumbs up - thumbs down
or
thumb average * amount of comments
(prolly someone has already suggested one of those but i'm too lazy to read the whole thread so... :))
