Don't know if you've heard. It's been all over the news. A 32 year old norwegian citizen dressed in an fake police-uniform killed 80+ people in youth camp on Utøya, an island outside of the capital Oslo. Just before the massacre a massive bomb went off inside a government building in the central capital. There hasn't yet been any indication that this mentally unstabled person (mass-murderer) (who calls himself a Nationalist - and a right-sided extremist) was in any way involved in any Islamic or other terrorist-organization. It's too early to say. He is being interrogated, and have been cooperative to talk according to police officials.

I would like to send my condolenses too everyone involved in this tragic accident. Nothing like this should happen anywhere in the world. Nothing like this should break down anyone. Killing other people is a sign of weakness.

Last time I read about the subject it was in 30 people, but I haven't been following the news since I have less than 24 hours to finish... something.

Anyway that's sad, killing, people dying etc. I have an "uncle" (not legally an uncle) in Norway at the moment... must ask someone if he's alright.

I followed the events yesterday through the public media in Germany, which - how else could it be - tried to shine this event in an islamic extremist light, although they haven't had yet a single shred of liable information.

Now that I heard the new number of victims from the assault on Utøya, I'm truely shocked and pretty sure that this will result in some sort of legislation depriving the people of Norway of rights and liberties - e.g. the legal possession and purchase of firearms.

I really like to hear what type of explosives this man used and - if turns out to be military grade - how the heck he got ahold of it. Not to mention who may have provided the material.

My sympathies are with the Norske people and I hope the police will do a proper job of exposing and apprehending potential "background-structures" just as they did in 1978 with the Rocambole network.

It seems like the murderer does not like Muslims. The TV interviews with people who survived the massacre on the island gave me the impression that it was a summer camp of the Socialist party for Muslim youngsters.

I don't give a damn about motives, political orientation or anything else in these matters. It's a tradigy no matter what, and I hope the relatives of the poor souls are able to get whatever help they need to allow them to move on in life.

My hopes are, that just half the amount of money that will now be spent to prevent something that cannot possibly be prevented, will be spent on catastrophies that actually can be prevented. Like the famine in african countries causing thousands of deaths every day.

well, the problem with the femine is a whole problem with "the system". it's not the first famine and it will not be the last.
what does it help to send there now money just to pay for "removing the damage" the corporations caused over the years? it will happen again, sure you save some of those poor people, but you somehow finance the capitalist mass destruction caused by the corporations there. they sure don't pay to "remove the damage".

in the light of such a dramatic and organized event (which included bombs and the death of innocent children) I think it's clearly time to remove the right to own firearms in Norway. it's only right and fare, in the name of the children who have died. and let's not forget 7/7 in London, 9/11, and all other terrorism.

it makes me scared to walk down the street. i'm petrified of my own neighbours. everyone is a potential terrorist now.
