i forgot heaven7, antimoney, incyber and dash!
If you only care about everything up through 1998, the Hornet Charts page is actually back up (http://www.hornet.org/ha/pages/hc). I've thought about restarting it, somewhere, someday.. maybe if I still don't have a life next year. :)
talking of the pc : imho the best intros ever are probable orange's sea robot of love and fudge's clone serie. in the best demo category, i'd certainly put 2nd reality, crystal dream 2, halcyon's lifeforms, and some more i don't remind here...
and on the amiga : everything from melon and polka bros :)

holy crap Skypher, "Some bookprint and a broken heart"... you're not serious. that's one of the most rubbish intros I've ever seen. And that's saying a lot :D
2nd reality? you gotta be kidding me
phoenix: do that! charts is fun. ;)
desert dreams? you gotta be kidding me.
IMHO (warning: some people may get upset and flail appendages around)
All replay demo/intro stuff was fun at the time, but it's not that great when you consider over a decade of demos.
It's like MTV archives of the late nineties without the airtime.

ector, each to his own :)
How about looking at the importance of demos?
Old demos can't compete with new demos anyway, in some ways, so not all people can appreciate the old demos (if you've seen 3d accelerated demos first, and discover 2nd reality after that, I don't think you'd be impressed much. But if you were there at the time 2nd reality was released, you'll always appreciate it greatly, and the impact it had on the scene).
But it would be nice to create sort of a timeline, with some milestone demos on it...
Make a chart of how the scene evolved. I would like to gather data to do this...
Some demos that come to mind at this time, are Enigma by Phenomena, Desert Dream by Kefrens, Second Reality by Future Crew, Tint by TBL, FR-08...
Yea, I'd like to do that...
If you want to help, send me suggestions for demos that should be on the timeline. Mention when the demo was released and why it was so important.
Mail me at X-Calibre@bigfoot.com
Thanks :)

A timeline spanning across pages is actually one of the ideas we have for the (MindCandy) DemoDVD booklet/insert. Of course, you'd only see PC demos on it, for this volume. It's a matter of whether it'll fit in to the whole design or not, we'll see.
Nobody mentioned Bakkslide 7 (Hellcore / Omnicolour) ???
Actually several people mentioned it.
I am the best
Skarab: Sure? ...
LiquidA/Omnicolour=;:) ;;)!);;);)!;);)
Yeah ! Sure !
Fr-07 is a child, not a demo. Ask rp for a screenshot. ;)
most important demos of all times:
red sector mega demo (amiga), dark side of the spoon (atari), mental hangover (amiga), hardwired (amiga).
"rsmd" is the prototype of the mega demo with loader part, "dsots" adds a great menu to select the effect, mental hangover is the end of the mega demo eara, and hardwired is the birth of design. what is the first music synced demo? state of the art? if we find that component, we have everything that makes todays demos. i don't see any other important addition to the demo scene. better style, better graphics, better music, better 3d, but nothing new.
remember: i said "most important", not "best". the best are of course: elysium, arte, kasparov, fr-05, fr-08, fr-019 :-)

chaos: please add "in my opinion" to that post.
I remember a Rebels megademo that played video animations synced to the music...
Sortof advanced VU meters...
But does that count as music sync?
Or what about the VU meteres themselves?
I also remember some demos that had 3d objects as VU meters... Pyramids morphing to the tracks, and things like that. All way before SOTA

scali:
of course there was music sync even in the first demos, even in tech-tech demo which is the oldest amiga demo i know. but what was the first demo that had massive and well done music sync? global trash? state of the art? desert dream? nexus seven? kasparov? it's more a constant refinement than a revolution, and therefore i can't agree with myself on a milestone-sync-demo.
when mental hangover was released, most demos adopted the "trackmo" style and the "mega demo" with loader part was practically dead.
when hardwired came out, no one got away with releasing demos without design.
but still most demos have week sync. including some farb-rausch productions.

chaos: pretty big leap between nexus 7 and kasparov don't you think?
Today, quite a lot of demos are not synchronized correctly at all...
