what is the best demo and/or intro made do you think?

category: general [glöplog]
Yeah, that sounds nice, only that it usually doesn't work. Online record stores often say something like "If you like Marilyn Manson, you might also like Christina Aguilera or Europe".

There somewhat less demogroups than there are music-"artists" (and I use the term loosely here, since there was a reference made to Europe) so it could work. And Analogue could moderate it all, since he has plenty of spare time, ofcourse.

top10 list are nice to people who are new to the scene. but top10 prods that arent on the list doesnt deserve to be left out.
browsing the productions on pouet.net is quite limited, theres no real structure, no relations to follow, the previos suggestion on "if you like this one you might like these aswell" would be a great feature, i know that this is hard to create, and very hard to make it accurate. anyhow, the browsing needs a lift. imho.

yeah, it's would be a really cool feature for pouet - now there's really no way to discover demos you didn't know about, except than checking out the new comments.

it could work by somehow indexing the thumbs-up given by people - i.e. if demo A gets thumbs up from five people, and of these four have also thumbed up demo B, then demo B would be recommended. I don't know shit about databases & stuff, but this sounds like something that's not quite trivial to implement though...

Hardwired, GBG, FR019: poemtoahorse, Te-2rb and Dope are things that should be thrown on a pedestial so people can grovel in it's majestic presence.

Or something like that.

If we're going to take things like the top 10 seriously, we'd all be buying Backstreet Boys albums as well instead of secretly downloading them on Kazaa ;)

"random production" is a nice way to find new demos :)

Saffron: No it wouldn't be that hard to make such a feature. Might get heavy on the sql side without any changes to database structure but of course a feature like that doesn't have to be updated every time you reload the page. But unfortunately Analogue seems to be quite busy with other things nowadays...

point is, saffron's idea might rather list the most famous demos rather than the most similar "i.e. if you like this you might also like.." demos. or am i seeing this all wrong?

Maybe there should be a feature where people could "link" demos with each other. Like, if at least two people tell the database that two demos are somewhat similar or of the same style, they would be listed as "relatives".

Skrebbel: Well of course there's a lot of things how the script could be finetuned. For example favouring the demos/intros from the same group, same year, same party etc. over others.

Examples: On COMA: Paimen page there's a hint that if you like this, you might want to try also COMA: The Control (enough thumbs up, same group and same year), Halcyon: Innuendo (enough thumbs up, same year, same party) etc.

I believe some kind of automatic system would be best because with "link" feature only small minority of the demos would end up with such links. It could be nice extra, though.

Robotnik and Saint are my fav demos, while Hplus and Bakkslide7 still rule the intro world. All in all, Halcyon made my day several times...

There's just something about it.
It's fast, nice music, and just mellow.
