They'll no doubt sell some to real fans of the c64 who'll buy anything with the logo. Unless I'm seriously misjudging the number of those people though, I reckon they've seriously misjudged their business plan.

I saw somewhere someone came up with a chemical for restoring the plastic on these old beige boxes to the original colour, so I guess it's at least not permanent.

I'm still having a question in my mind, why do they do this? Who would buy a stupid PC in retro case? Better idea would be to put in some modern based reconfigurable machine, like C-One or some DTV derivate. That would have tits, not this.

I remember seeing "comondore" PC's at Cebit back in 2005...that is...make a gamer PC....stick a "C" logo on it...presto...the guy at the trade stand made a point that it had a c64 emulator installed...which is kinda weird.
I can't remember my old comondore Dos PC had that *hmmm*



Its all bullshit branding...kinda like plenty of games today...you buy the IP and the franchise of an old classic RPG...but ditch everything related to gameplay.

Those were dutch dudes who also sponsored Evoke (and maybe Demozone?) and were pretty nice dudes. (even though shawn was being realllllly obnoxious :D)

I guess the price isn't too unreasonable at least. But it's basically a netbook inside, and comes with an ubuntu DVD - 'commodore OS' to be mailed later. So no pre-installed emulator even. Hopefully they'll provide a decent package of games + apps with it, like cloanto used to with the amiga emulator package.

Thinking about this thing a bit more.. maybe it would be ideal for c64 coders? Assuming they're developing on win/linux with emulation, this thing is powerful enough, and would somehow be nice than a random PC tower to work on. Whether that makes it worth the money is still doubtful though :)

If I wanted to run c64 stuff on x86 I'd just use an emulator...oh wait, everyone *already does*.

I've actually quite warmed to it. I mean, I wouldn't actually consider *buying* one. But if I happened to be a c64 fan and coded c64 stuff, I suspect that would be plenty powerful enough. And it would be kind of cool on your desk, if you're into such retro stuff. And it has a clicky keyboard.

If you actually think about it, a decent clicky keyboard might set you back $100+. Anything in a decently styled case will probably add another $100 (whether the old breadbin is good design or not is a matter of taste of course ;). That puts the value of the bits inside it at $400, which isn't all that bad, and it's small change for the average c64 coder these days.

You can get a real c64 off craigslist or something for <$100. The hardest part is getting to it before its owner tries to put it in the garbage. :/

Although the C64 and Amiga cases were looking damn good, the thing about these machines were inside of them.

Just bringing a standard PC into an oldschool case makes no sense at all, more than bringing a nostalgic feeling back...

I've got a real C64 and a real Amiga in my little home studio instead :)

Also on a side note, the plastic in the old ones contained polyurethane, the white in that particular plastic goes brown when exposed to sunlight. Most skateboard wheels contain the same plastic, which is why the white wheels also go brown after a while.
