I've been trying to find a classic (non-scene) painting I remember from many years ago, but I don't know who painted it or the name of the painting.

I believe it was a depiction of the apocalypse from a Christian perspective. On one side of the painting you saw a crowd of human beings lining up with angels and being led up a large hill towards heaven. On the other side, you saw naked humans being chased and killed by demons, and cast into fires I think.

I know there are a lot of paintings like this, but I was always mesmerised by this one specific piece and found it quite frightening.

Not sure if anyone knows it, but thought i'd ask.

I was thinking of the one on the left mainly, I think it was people being led to heaven while being chased by fairly scary demonic whores (demonic whores was a regular office conversation topic back then, so I unfortunately only took a photo of that part..)

The one on the right is kind of right, but unfortunately it's a terrible, terrible photo.

No idea of the painter or title of either. But I can say they're both hanging in either the louvre or the place opposite (can't remember the name, it's just over the river inside an old train station building). Or at least they were there in 2005.

Thanks Psonice. The one I'm thinking of has a similar style to the second one you posted, but I'm pretty sure it's in landscape format and the divide between "good and evil" is quite distinct...I think the demons are on the right, the angels on the left.

I also remember there being a LOT of people because I was in awe of the artist's patience. I recall a demon digging its claws into one of the men who has a look of terror on his face. :)

I'm sure I've actually seen exactly that one, no photo though :(

I came across Garden of Earthly Delights in my search Navis. It's quite close, but not it. Bosch is amazing though!!

haha, well all artists have tried copying a Slayer cover at some point and I'm sure Memling was no different. :)

I'd like to see that one. It's not what I was thinking of again (guess there's plenty on this particular theme :)

A painting like this, it just doesn't come anywhere near close on a computer screen. Seeing the whole thing (which can be the size of a house in some cases) up close in reality is a whole different thing.

I like the fact that the painter put tonsured people going to the hell.
This denotes fine sense of humor and good social criticism skills.

Thought i recognised that style! Hans Memling also did the picture of Jesus that they used for OMM in THX 1138:
