i never went to parties but from what i get from here :

yes, and it´s awesome!

for me, demopartys are the only place there is for being loud, smelly and behaving completely different to my everyday work attitude.
and therefore i love'm!
and with "being loud" i think of shouting and having fun. not using a private PA to stress other ppl.

Because shouting never stresses other people.

The idea is that there is no speakers system, but the music is broadcasted and people listen to it with wireless headphones.

I've seen a silent disco at my town some years ago, and the concept is really nice. There are a lot of advantages:

- People can control the volume individually or just not use headphones at all
- People can speak without the need to scream
- As a non very common concept, it is seen as a novel thing and attracts people to visit the disco
- No need for soundproofing
- Usually no need for the special and restrictive permissions disco bussiness requires from the authorities


So, I believe this concept could be as well applied to demoparties. It could be easy to broadcast the music by the LAN or wireless net and let people carry their own headphones. Without a sound system, I suppose the party would be a bit cheaper to manage, and it would not require to in a non urban place or soundproofed.

Well... just an idea...

i've performed once at placard festival, where the audience was listening the set with headphones.. it was a bit weird.

Only trouble being, noone will hear them coz they're all forced to wear headphones if they want to hear shit.

Or as an uncommon concept, it might be seen as a shitty idea and scare away visitors.

Anyone who has used public transport in a developed country since Walkmans appeared on the market will confirm that your most excellent solution will not properly negate sound pollution.

Thing is, we're talking about demoparties, not "disco bussiness", which is quite a different beast.

Likewise, there are billions of people who believe praying to some bearded dude in a dress will lead to salvation.

How do you plan to connect a headphone to the wireless LAN? Do you like dancing with your laptop?

I seriously doubt renting a truckload of FM headphones (not to mention the repair costs) would be cheaper than renting a PA system.

Overall, this is a fucking horrible idea in pretty much every imaginable aspect... Except maybe that, once implemented, it could serve to reduce my list of "parties to visit". Way to go! :)

I've been to a few silent disco parties. They were a fun gimmick, but hardly a solution to anything.
