TMDC should have an oldschool platform compo

Yeah, that could work. Have a number of allowed platforms (C64, Vic20, Spectrum, Atari XL etc) and then a set of rules with something like:
* Standard built-in charset for the platform only
* No mode switching allowed on the screen (ie. no half-height chars for example)
* etc.

Atari ST !!!
C128 ! 80 columns!
Windows XP!
VT100 terminal !
that might defeat the 'giving a huge amount of CPU power per pixel' fun
there are lot more fun things to do with textmode than 'giving a huge amount of cpu power per pixel'
i want my ssh demo!
nosfe: I agree

What is Textmode in this world of LCD screens, CUDA, quad cores and Windows 7 ?
It's probably a refreshing set of limitation, some mix of oldchool constraints with future possibilities. It's a very unbalanced pixel:power ratio.
We want pure oldschool!
What about computers that dont have graphics and only text?

-Apple1
-CBM series

That could be optional. I mean "you coded on an apple1? Bring your machine to the party".
but TMDC isn't a party
Yo dawg, I heard you liked compos, so we put an oldschool platform compo in your textmode demo compo so you can compete while you compete.
What sol_hsa said!
the_ye-ti, yeah i know how their rules are and i think those are way too limiting
@britelite in this case carrying weights is not an option.
I'd be interested! Would MZ-700 be ok if i use built-in charset only?
This year's winner ;)
yeah it could sure be interesting. The problem here is mostly the hardware.
For the same reason we don't really support Linux and MacOS entries: the demos are judged by a jury of several peoples, and not everyone has access to a whole museum of antique hardware or marginal OSes.
So once again the lowest common denominator wins.
chriz74: nothing stops you from organizing such a compo, tho :)

hardware should not be a problem in this era of emulators. I think.
demos should never be judged on an emulator
i have a CGA graphics card, but your demos all use EGA/VGA textmodes, booooo!
