Gargaj: a separate vote for code/gfx/music on Anoxia Redux would be an interesting experiment though
poi: aye, but i just wanted to ridicule javascript at the same time!!!111
yeti: but anoxia redux had neither of the three! :P

"Popularity" certainly doesn't make much sense. When I introduce new people to Pouet (which does happen on occasion :) they almost always ask what that is and I just tell them to ignore it.
I would like to see some sort of ranking of the individual aspects of a demo, but not as a 0-5 star system for each. Finding the right way to do that would be hard.

Maali: why not use jQuery to turn the thumbs down up ? Or even better, let's use -webkit-transform:matrix3d(…) to get HW accelerated thumbs down pointing up \:D/
p01: nice, but what about the hard drinking, belt fighting "serious" sceners? We don't want a massive thumb up fest of a positivism love-in. Can we have all of the thumbs spinning round then? And pulsating pigs please :)
Gloom: add 3 tick boxes next to the thumb up/down section, "Great code" "Music rocks" "Sexy artwork" or whatever.

Are we being fined 1 glöp for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute next?
yes, yes you are.

here's food for thought:
Anoxia Redux - 56 up, 36 oink, 65 down. conclusion: controversial demo, divides audience. might worth watching purely for the curiousity factor.
now let's remove the downs, and add half of them to the pigs (because they have no other option but let's say half of them will just not comment)
Anoxia Redux - 56 up, 68 oink. conclusion: demo is dull, didnt excite audience most of the audience. not worth watching.
Nope. It would transform to this... 56 liked it (thumb up), 157 comments (oink).
kb's suggestion is also interesting.
I think the popularity column could be useful if the algo changed to something like this:
10 profile views = 10px wide.
100 profile views = 20px wide.
1000 profile views = 30px wide.
and so on.
psonice: i donate my avatar for that purpose. as for pulsating piggy, i once made a "dancing one" (can recall filename) but it can suffice!
I'd go with two separate categories for voting (Like: "Technical side" / "Presentation").
This way people could vote up for a production that had a nice technical side but didn't really like the design. (Instead of downvoting because he really wanted to give it more for a new record/breaktrough but didn't enjoy it other than that.)
Or the other way. (Great design but that was all it had).

Somewhat pointless, or maybe not.. if you make a little graph showing thumbs down, pigs, and up.. that tells you quite a bit. Anoxia Redux would show lots at the extremes, not much in the middle: clearly splits opinion. All one or the other: good or bad. Flat: boring demo?
Trace: 56 likes and 157 not-likes still doesn't tell us much more than that only 25% thought it worthy of a thumb, from that I'd assume it was either dull or bad rather than something controversial and potentially good.

It's fine as it is right now plus what Gargaj said.
We have to keep the fuck you.
But maybe it would be more intuitive to choose another visualization for the popularity - ignoring the actual count of views and just sorting the entries by their count of views + apply a linear scale then.

I don't give a shit if people thumb up or down my product as long as they put the effort to write a comment at all.. of course thumb ups are really nice, but I rather want to know if people watched it.
Let's all have neutral feelings for Nazis because we can't dislike them! Sounds great!
"You killed my familly. I have a neutral opinion about you, I'm not going to become a super hero now."

I just wanna be able to change my mind, Pouet. Let me rethumb.
don't get too much unfocused..
I know! Let's just change the whole thing. People can give flowers to productions they like, and pick leaves from flowers other people have given to productions they don't like. The flowers can be red, blue or pink, but not yellow! And it would be super awesome and clear for everybody!
ffs people, nothing is ever gonna change!

He thumbed down one of mine, based only on his dislike of the OS :D
Trace has lost the fuck you. What he needs is a massive dose of negativity to get it back :D

rulez only sucks!
;)

keops: Exactly. I wish I didn't had the option.

Possible adoption of Demozoo's "credit system" (I guess I have to apply for Demozoo adminship first though)
how does that one work?
mr.doob:
Come on big boy! You have the option of ignoring the thumb down button, of ignoring thumbs down altogether, of making yourself a userCSS/JS/extension removing the thumbs down if you're so afraid you may see or even worse use them, ...
Let's be realistic: the rating system works pretty good esp. considering the code base of Pouet.net and the crazy bunch of people we are here. There is no chance in hell the rating system is gonna change soon.
If you, or anyone, dislike it so much, go and make a dem^Wwebsite about it. One that snatch everything from Pouet but the thumbs down and so on.
