Adobe Edge
category: general [glöplog]
Adobe is working on a new tool for creating animations with HTML5, maybe they know that Flash is dying.

Flash isn't dying.
in the long run it hopefully is
flash is not dying, but slowly agonizing ;)
In b4 2 byte scalars stored as 5 bytes plaintext... 10 if u16.
Well, when the standardisation process is so damn slow then technologies like Flash will survive, unless everyone get gayish and convert to Apple.
Not a single HTML5 feature there though... DOM/CSS3 as far as I can see...
Even Internet Explorer is mostly html5 compatible now.
flash is dying? and noone told Kongregate / Newgrounds yet?
When Flash is dead it will finally become a cool demo platform
cruzer: Yes, because as we all know, only super state of the art technologies or dead and forgotten technologies make for good demo platforms. :)
seems like a smart move.. introduce an HTML5 tool that no doubt will have a lot in common with Flash so it's easy to pick up and use for existing ad makers, while also updating Flash.
seems like a bad move. Flashblock will no longer kill the worst adverts :(
fuck plugins!
psonice: adblock ftw!
psonice: adblock ftw!
Actually Maali, "/etc/hosts" ftw!
Zplex: I'm on Mac, that's surely why I'm using gayish colors pattern in my intros! :)
Btw, I really hope Flash will die, because it's the last part of the web based on a commercial/copyrighted software and not a free standard like html or javascript, etc...

i have nothing against a flash free web, i just would hate to see apple deliver the killing blow :p
maali: yeah, i use both. But turning off flash is good for those times when it's not your pc, and you don't want to mess about installing adblock :)
Anyway, I'm not sure flash is going to 'die'. Maybe just get relegated to somewhat unimportant. HTML5 + js doesn't seem to be enough to replace flash for games so far, but it's probably better for pretty much anything else. So I guess it'll stay on newgrounds etc.
But I really hope it disappears everywhere else, it's a pain to keep updated, and insecure without updates, and it does crash rather a lot (more on mac than pc perhaps, but maybe that's because I don't use pcs too much lately). If it's crashing more on macs, no wonder apple are keen on crushing it :)

Flash won't be dead as long <video> has no fullscreen, and I don't mean the right click FF option. Industry is already trying out HTML5 ads, which look awefully poor in regards what is possible.
We soon will be served with HTML5 ads which look like FlashBanner Ads, yay..

Fucking fuck having to use Chromium, having to type in the bbcode! Wave your plugins goodbye suckah!
so no flash demos anymore? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgwi0lWgX8w :)
The music sounds vaguely like Disco Science by Mirwais from Snatch.
