"music is the most entry level thing to do in the scene and because of that, there are a lot of musicians floating around."

yes, but where are the good ones? there are also a lot of demos floating
around, but many are crap and we only remember the good stuff.

and i totally disagree that a known musician has to post a sample of his work, take musicians like romeo knight, radix.. - there is a guarantee that
the tune will be always of a very high quality, no matter what.

jazz: there's a ton of samples of their work already out there, we don't need to ask for it if we've already heard it :D

I think the point was when it's a new musician, with no sample of their work we don't know their style or quality at all.

ok, so in that case he should post some snippets online, so people can check it out.

Just tried a random track.. yep, sounds great. You'll probably get more interest and less waffle now ;)

now i love this thread.
it started with the standard pouet bashing and now the mouths are shut.
pouet is such a snakepit.

hes good, no question.

gibs: come to main, you really should.

ah and i like the "touch you" track, even if the vocals could be done bit more aggressive.

Oh come on, it's POUET! I don't even think gibs really cared. That's the usual behaviour of internets everywhere around the internet. Plus, it's very "scene" to show our balls, gibs did, people enjoy, it's a "win". If he had lost, nobody would have said "oh poor guy, just retry later" :)
How very French/Cocoon :)

gibs: nearly forgot. One of my tracks: http://www.chocopoolp.com/microbe/demoloops/breakinglimitations.mp3 That was made on a palm some years back, using a music program with some simple 303-like synths and some 808 drum samples. It's limited to 3 notes, and very few patterns.

Nothing else online, most of the tunes I made were mods back in the early 90s. I doubt I actually have any now, they weren't worth keeping ;)

I was not talking about those tracks (on the topic). I have posted those links in reply to the Jazz message.

I have an electronic track that could fit in 90% of demo/game.

But as I said I can submit it to the "music compo".

gibs: i guess you did not read the comment from mrp on the page 3?

I have probably read it, but I have probably changed my mind (dropped the idea) on page 3 :)

another win for pouet! (loss for the demoscene ;))

I don't see why.. in a scene with quite a lot of musicians and plenty of tunes available, just turning up and saying "I have a tune, who wants it" isn't likely to get you far. He was advised to put up some samples so people can judge if it's worth considering or not. Pretty reasonable.

Now he's done that, and we know he's pretty good and the tune is well worth considering if somebody's got plans for a demo and no musician.

Beyond that, there was some discussion of why there's so many musicians in the scene, and the usual banter. Why a loss for the scene?

Well I understood that he's dropped the idea of putting his music into a demo for Main by page 3..

However, I wasn't being too serious ;)

As you said, didn't see anything wrong with this thread, did see some misunderstanding and disagreement but that's expected..

The music compo is also a part of the scene.
