Nvidia 3D Vision demos?
category: general [glöplog]
Just wondering.
you should,..
yeah, the emperor's new clothes.
I find 3D TVs, 3D monitors and 3D cinema absolutely uninteresting/uninspiring.

If someone could get around to inventing 1000 LPI displays and building VR headsets that don't suck, with motion sensors and all, that would be very interesting. Otherwise, what Navis said.
Definitely what Navis said. those 3d monitors miss the original feeling of a normal screen display...
Real life, now in 3D!!!!!11
Having tested some 3D demos, I actually like them a lot.
I just tried running "scyphozoa" with 3D Vision enabled, and it does indeed work just fine. Quite enjoyable, actually :)
2D 3D 4D 5D. It doesn't matter. You only watching on a screen. If you look to the side you're' still in the same room. Just saying.
And I get a massive headache of the fucking mess with my eyes. Fuck it.

there is retina display to rule them all.
I hope the 3d hype this time actually produces something half decent and fairly widespread. The latest stereo displays (at least the cinema ones I've seen) are actually pretty decent, I'd like a computer display with that kind of 3d. And new displays that don't need glasses are being build, this is what we need :)
That said, yeah, it's just a normal screen with some depth. What we really want is full 360 degree immersive environments, not a small screen with stereo. That means either VR or some kind of volumetric display a human can sit inside. The first is still pretty shitty as you require displays glued to your head, the 2nd doesn't exist. Decent stereo will have to do for now.

Oh, shut up! I'm looking forward to the head-tracking gear to arrive at the office tomorrow! It's going to be awesome! ;)
C'mon guys, why diss new things as useless crap?
I find it actually cool. Granted, it's not cheap, but if you give it a try...
After some seasoning I even felt the breathtaking feeling I had the first times I saw 3D graphics moving in realtime. Objects so real... Undescriptible.
But sure maybe it's not needed or desirable for everything.
Anyway my "question" was, maybe this could be considered as a new platform, and are there demos or plans for something designed for it, and are there compatible releases. I'm still not sure if any 3D executable is supposed to get compatibility (many dont), maybe it depends on the version of DX/OGL used ; or is it simply a list of executables that the system recognizes? Cant be, as I saw some demo start in that mode.
Also, at which level is the abstraction of dual pov rendering done, and is it up to the app...and is there some sdk, and if not can you have your app working with it.

oh:
kusma: actually i'd love a decent vr helmet. Infact, fuck it, a full body suit. I just can't see it taking off amongst the wider public ;)
psonice: The 3D hype is obviously because Sony & Co needs to give consumers a reason to keep buying new TVs. It'll be a disaster for the stock price when the TV sale rate drops now that the HDTV boom is kind of over. So they need a new boom, and they hope 3D to be it. I somehow doubt it will work out for them :P
I can see it being as popular as bluray, for similar reasons :) For everyone other than the enthusiasts, 3d will be standard when it comes as standard on a standard priced tv, if that ever happens.
