Scene related RSS feeds
category: general [glöplog]
If you know me, if only just a little bit, you know that I like to collect strange things. :)
I'm not going to bother wrapping these in URL tags as they are all links to RSS feeds. If you have a favorite scene-related feed (or even semi-related) please add it to this message thread!

In what way is Slashdot scene related? Sceners don't like linux and get OUTSIDE (twice a year) ;)

There are many more to be found, of course. :)
Those are just some of the top scoring Slashdot posts. It's not very well known, but one of the Slashdot admins has strong roots in the Amiga demoscene, and Slashdot has always been a positive supporter of demoscene-related news.

well, the fact that once in a looooong while news about the demoscene are posted make it a demoscene related site?
that's like CNN is a computer-oriented news channel because they write about a virus or a large computer exhibition once in a while...
btw, in what way is the pouet bbs scene related? :)

All joking aside, I clearly said I'm looking for even semi-scene related news feeds. While on the fringe, Slashdot does fit in there somewhere. :)
I've found that Slashdot is several rungs higher in the evolutionary chain of worthwhile technical news portals, while Wired, CNN, MSNBC or any other corporate-sponsored media machines rarely ever churn out anything near-factual or informative. Slashdot also has a somewhat effective rating system so if an item is incorrectly reported, the general public will let you know immediately. :)

scene news network had rss feed aswell me thinks..
http://www.vantage.ch/scenenews/
its not clearly on the homepage but they have it used on totalkaos and asked couple times for us to incorporate it into scene.org front page so it should be around somewhere... unlock or ghandy should know the url.. wouldnt hurt to have it more publically available...

I'm currently investigating similar links on Satellite Scene Network, Total Kaos and Thuglife. :)

Maybe you should create your own RSS of scene-related RSS feeds?
BTW -- ARTS needs an 88x31 button. Any takers? We'll thank you on the show. :)
ps: yeap, when i get time... there are more important things to do :-)
radman: total kaos already has the snn news. or do you want a feed from the posts? imho it's not very clever to have a feed of news/posts that are only available trough a login :-)

Yeah I wonder what method Total Kaos is using. SNN I believe has a news applet or something posted on their site, but I don't see any published RSS links.
TotalKaos.de is using the news from the Scene News Network...
not in rss format but instead a ready-to-be-included-in-php array, slengpung has also a news feed available:
http://www.slengpung.com/news/slengpung.news
in fact, if i remember correctly ojuice and noerror use the same kind of method. very easy and useful if you're just building your site with php...

Melwyn: perfect if you trust the site 100% or is just stupid as fuck.
Some people have asked me "What the hell is RSS?" in private email.
RSS is basically a method of news syndication and you don't need to run a website in order to use it.
There are several RSS clients for regular users available. Check out FeedReader for example at http://www.feedreader.com and be instantly notified whenever someone posts a new Pouet message! It's a great tool to manage browsing of various news sites.

i'd rather parse an xml than run foreign code :)
rasmus: Agreed.
