To visit a party, would you travel to...

Brazil?
Yes, I am planning in making a party in Brazil, I know the compo will be crap (this will be the "kick-off" party, to kick-off the scene here... teach them what is the scene, and also teach them about game making... both things that here are fused, and relatively unknown).
So, would you visit?
I don't need to know if thousands can come, we don't have in the entire country a place for thousands people anyway (in fact, the location that I plan to use, lack nearby hotels to more than 500 people or something like that...)
Also, I never organized anything, so if someone is willing to help, at least a bit, saying what I need to do, I would appreciate!

yes.
(there's non-visa agreement between Russia and Brazil, so it's easy to visit your country, but expensive=)

Como é a cerveja no Brasil?
O pessoal daqui gosta... Mas é tudo pilsen (não é lá minha preferencia).
So, a russian, and a portuguese? I wonder if a german would come (since there are lots of german parties already...).
I will try to get sponsored by HP, Dell and IBM (not necessarily the three at the same time), they all have nearby factories and main branches...

No. $1000 to fly there from Denmark.
Speeder, start it small. Don't involve big time sponsors untill you're guaranteed a success (i.e. you know what you're doing and people start attending your parties).
I'd consider Molvania...
what rasmus said. in fact, maybe taking the portuguese parties as an example may not be a bad idea. it's a country with a small scene, which has seen relatively many "outreach"-ish parties, where an attempt was made to get non-sceners involved.
as a free bonus, you'll also get an image of what huge number of difficulties you're bound to expect (especially when you talk to ps). such an image may be demotivating, but after all it's better to be a bit realistic than to aim for the skies and fail miserably (and with a huge debt).
oh an no, too expensive for me. in all honesty, i think you'll get *very* few european/north american visitors except if you somehow manage to fund their plane ticket (like nvscene did).
btw wasn't there a scene in argentina once? there might be one or two potential visitors there.

oh and i know 1 scener in paramaribo, suriname. he's going to come by bike.
skrebbel: yep http://pouet.net/party.php?which=632
speeder: a menos que arranjes uma ligação a alta conferencia da nvidia não esperes ter estranjas a visitar a party no brazil. mas organiza na mesma. beber cerveja e ver umas demos, mesmo que seja em grupo pequeno, é sempre de valor.
and about what you need to do:
i advise you to start small, get a free place you can takeover with a projector and a sound system, talk to some local computer groups to show up, or book an hour there to do a demoshow and talk a little about the demoscene.
when you got a decent handful of interested folks (minimum a dozen), get a free place you can takeover with a projector and a sound system and have a competition aswell. have it on a date that doesnt clash with other important events of the same type (conferences, univ exams). announce it 1 month before and again 1 week before. have a list of people who are coming. get people to announce it to their friends for you. a cute invtro helps.
you can also try to connect it to an existing event (conference/lanparty) as long as you make sure it has it's distinct image / announcement.
give continuity to the comunity it forms around it (mailing list / forum / social network group)
then learn from all the mistakes you did and repeat whenever you're bored.
dont forget to have fun and to ignore pouet feedback on prods as much as possible. :)

ps is the ronaldinho of the demoscene!
@Maali
Fat, hired transvetites and big teeth? http://raphaelferreira10.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/ronaldo-fenomeno-c7c34.jpg
Or the other one? :P
What happens here, is that starting small won't work, because people are overly spread (not exactly physically, the location will be near the city with the biggest amount of IT and CG professionals and researchers of Brazil), and the community sense here is rather weak...
But it also won't work starting ridicously big, like I said, there are not even a place to stuff everyone...
So I am aiming at finding like 300 or 400 people to attend, and have maybe a conference too..

Ab-so-fucking-lutely :-)
And I'll stay for another two weeks to boot!

would be interesting to attend a demoparty there, not that likely financially possible for me though...
speeder: then i recommend you to hook up with an event already happening and organize a demoscene corner on it. else it'll be alot more work then you're thinking it is.
ps:
I would CERTAINLY try that.
Unfortunally, there are not events like that (yes, it is really depressing... this is why I will make a event that is mixed demoscene and gamedev, both are lacking here)

Brazil?
Cum2Brazil!

try looking out for local lanparties or gamedev meetings, or conferences about creativity, digital comunities or vjing, even an art/music festival can be a good starting point. or just a local bar you can hijack for a night every month. send a few flyers to a few universities and hacklabs and eventually you'll find other people interested. also retro computing groups are usually interested in demoscene, also worth looking up. there is some history of brazilian scene (even a party announcment in the 90s which never took place), but even if it's just history of music tracking and remote scene interest, some folks in brazil do know what the demoscene is, you just need to dig them out of their holes.
but be quick!
Hey speeder, did anything happen with this?
Oh and 300 or 400 seems really optimistic to me, but maybe there are more sceners where you are. I was happy with 40, and even if that's all I get at each @party, I can live with it. Since all a handful of those 40 had a hand in releases at the party. ( : That's the spirit to look for.
Wish I had seen this thread, I would have offered to advise. Your idea is \m/

Cheapest single flight from Nürnberg germany to Natal € 971,42. Flight time between 21:00 and 28:00 hours. No thanks :\
i would love to go to brazil on holidays. i would hate to go to brazil to play with computers.
With TAM Linhas Aereas it's 798€ from Frankfurt, still a bit expensive, so no.
