knos: absolutely! I only recently played 'em on the PS2, and - i'm not the biggest gamer fan in the world - but I have no idea how I wasn't made more aware of those two titles. they are definitely the two best 3D games I have ever played! Esp. SotC.
I hear they are making SotC2 for the PS3. \o/

Gradius 3 is another title I have recently played that must be added. Completely great game!! (if you enjoy hardcore shoot 'em ups)
Stunts, mother fucker. Awesome pc game
Geez, I haven't played any of the games on this page! I guess that means I've defeated the addiction, but so very tempted to try these.
Can't believe no-one has mentioned Space Quest!

A bit dated now, but plenty of style and great music in there...
Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner
This game is considered one of the greats. by Hideo Kojima (Metal Gear Solid). I never even considered buying this one as it usually goes for £45-£50 but someone must have done a secret run and they are selling loads on eBay atm. I just got a copy for £12.99 ! :D
anyway, I haven't played it yet but if you've wanted this you might want to pay a little visit to eBay before they all sell.

so, even as a kid, i have never been much into video games. mainly because they bored me, i knew how they worked (ie: a series of predefined logic statements and conditions constrained in a limited man made universe...not very interesting) but this past couple of years I have somehow caught the gaming bug and unearthed some real works of genius game art. i missed these back then because of my blind refusal to accept that there might actually be some games worth playing. plus, it is too difficult to sort the diamonds from the regular rocks in an industry saturated by formulaic crappy games.
anyway, here are the latest two I have just completed after a short break from playing a list of treasures I'm currently working my way through:-
Homeworld: this is nothing short of a work of art. if you enjoy RTS type games, this is a MUST PLAY before you hit the grave.
System Shock 2: a role playing FPS horror game, set in space. ABSOLUTELY terrifying. Apparently, Bioshock (which i doubt i'll ever bother to play) is the spiritual successor to this but nowhere near as good.
so, just two more which have moved me enough to recommend. at least look into the on YouTube and consider. amazing games!
