Someone interesting in seeing their demo on a professional pressed CD?
category: general [glöplog]
The idea is simple: We're producing 2.000 pcs. of a professional pressed CD with homebrewn games, applications and demos which will be distributed via an Asian company worldwide.
Is someone interested to see his demo on it? Still, your demos need some kind of... errr... upgrate. I'll tell you later what that means, now I'm just curious who's interested in it.

everybody knows my opinion already
since i have no releases "stfu" is welcome btw :)
sounds a bit dodgy tbh- what's the asian company's interest in all this?
Hmm... you're right, it sounds really dodgy for someone who doens't know each detail. It's for their own popularity. They are the distributor and spread it all over the world, and their brand will be more popular due this. Sounds strange, but they have the money to do such expencive advertisement... if you want to call it like that. :)
do explain the "update" :D
and what about DA MONEY? ;)
Update... just... err... port it to another platform... heh. That's the secret. (Darn I broke the secret!) You get the hardware and software from us, you dont need to switch to another operating system.
Money: What about... what is it called again? Fame and satisfaction? :)

"Fame and satisfaction" doesn't go well with "port it to another <obscure> platform" in my book :D
Actually, we have the resources to port it by ourself but that would take months... time we don't have. We have a deadline for this compilation next month.
How are you supposed to port it yourself? Making an windows/d3d emulator? Anything else would be illegal, even for freeware applications.
If you pay, we port, if you don't pay, we dont give a shit. Welcome to earth.

Add to that that you all of a sudden wake up and ask people to port their productions ( and probably do other modifications ) for free in about a month.
No switching of the operating system but you will supply the hard- & software needed for the port?? Does is matter if it's OpenGL or DirectX? Will you send hardware by mail across the whole world if anyone is wanting to port their demo? Sound a little bit weird if you ask me....
arneweisse: I really don't get your message... if people are interested, they have to open their source codes, yes. Else it wouldn't be possible. There are also a few open source demos out there.
poï²: Only for those who are interested in it. This isn't an order, it's an offer. That's the difference.
ekoli: Sounds weird for those who aren't seriously interested in it. Mail me for further details IF you're really interested in it.
And that counts for everyone else. Don't blame me how foolish this idea is, you don't have to judge this and as I said. It's an offer. Nothing more, nothing less.

freeze: so you expect us to opensource our demos just to be shipped one some cd without getting payed? gee, that sounds like a sweet deal...
kusma: yea that'd be such a big deal to open source your demo, because you would have made money with it anyway!
freeze: send me hardware!!!
freeze: please elaborate on the platform in question.
kusma: You only have to open it to the people who are porting it. Or you just could port it yourself. Actually, it sounds like you're protesting cause you HAVE to do it. And that's absolutly wrong cause you have to do nothing if you don't wanna.
About "not even getting money": The Asian company doesn't get any money, they even pay for shipping it to the people worldwide. We don't get any money cause we even have to produce the disc. And now you think it's an unreasonable demand to ask to do something software-related for free? <ironic> Shame on me I asked for this... I should have known that the scene works this financial way. </ironic>
RA5MUS: Look in my profile where I'm "working" at. :)

It's not an offer, its just bullshit.
i'll give you all an offer, stefan:
If you all give me all your money, I will spend them on whisky. The offer is free for you to take if you want to, I'm not forcing you!

freeze: ok, so you are asking for us to port all of our demos to dreamcast? if so why not ask that?!
given that you have a dream-cast with perhaps some opengl or wrapper, just find some demos with source - mail the author and wham bam!

arneweisse: It's not your computer, its just we have computers which beat your computers. A.k.a. blah blah.
RA5MUS: I'm not directly asking you to port it, that sounds too selfish. As I said... if you want to promote your demos, to show it to more and new people, this is your chance due our offer. But it has to be ported to the Dreamcast cause it's a (oh wonder) Dreamcast related disc with other software as well. But you would get into the Dreamcast scene with your demo as well, much more audience and people who really admire what you do.

why couldn't you have said Dreamcast at the first place?
To get rid of old prejudices and to concentrate on the main cause.
