Agenda Circling Forth - soundtrack discussion

Copying someones style is one, copying the content is another. I fail to see how taking a ready-made song and re-editing it (badly) makes it more original than say a house-song made from scratch, despite it still being house.
gloom: you've unfairly dissed 1in10's work as not being original enough to be the soundtrack of a demo...
kb: nigga please, ofcourse not only remixes are art. we are just making a point that they also are and shouldnt be dismissed.
aftu: even if you were right about that statement, that is not the same as "to exclude remixing as a creative and artistic way...".
aftu: I can't decide whether you actually believe the crap you're saying, or if you're (ineffectively) trying to establish your own little straw man argument. Either way, you're failing.
Gloom, the whole thread is full of fail... and don't even try to argue with aftu, he thinks pouet is a training room.
Lao Tzu says "he who knows, does not speak. He who speaks does not know".. now, lets get some more intelligence into this thread people!
I like the fact that the people who are least bothered with these copyright issues are the people whose musical output consists of glitchy noise. You can't rip that!
gloom: then if you agree that remix is art, why banning it from demos ? why limiting demo art with artificial laws ? why being sad sheep ?
*sigh*
sagacity: i can't believe someone who did projects like melrose space and antimoney has trouble understanding the serious concearns behind the legal gagging of remix culture. you disapoint me.
yeah, do not face your own paradox.
(i was speaking to gloom ^^)
ps: I have no problems with remixing by itself, I just don't think *in the demoscene arena* it should be considered as a replacement for something truly original.
I disagree with copyright laws as they are right now, but that is beside the point. If the demoscene is an arena where everyone tries to do something that is at the peak of their capabilities, in a environment of competition no less, then only original content should be discussed.
If, however, you were to remove the competition element and release a demo outside of competition, I wouldn't have any objections.
This applies not just to the 'Agent' (which I think is kick-ass, regardless of the music) but it annoyed me even when 'State of Mind' and 'VIP2' got released. They are both excellent demos, but they had an unfair advantage in the competitions, so to speak.

Oh cool, is sagacity bringing a new theme to the discussion?
I'm really eager to see some good old scener criticizing noise/glitch music in this thread...

Doh, instead of 'Agent' I meant 'Agenda', of course.
Personally, I don't think it's such of an advantage to have such track in VIP2.. I really find this kind of music tasteless :D
But well, most people seem to find my music not interesting enough :D

Kaneel, yes, let's also include taste in the discussion :P
great, it's gonna be REALLY fun now :)
Yes, it will. Let me also state that I have no problems with the people who are, in fact, the creators of aforementioned glitchy noise :)

WELL I DISAGREE
them's fighting words
@plainoldsagacity: thats ok, I don't think I really fall into the glitchy noise description, neither IDM.. but people really want to put me inside it eh.
Oh and
Oh and
towel? come on. that's improbatur
Such a pity that we have so nice weather and I was in the beach this weekend instead of reading this thread. Damn, this real life...
Seriously, it's not about the limitations, it's about common sense and respect. And I'm very happy if a scener that can't play any musical instrument is still able to make kick ass remixes and link with the visuals of a prod. Just respect the people who you've stole from.
And by the way, ps,
yessir. Show me the kwan.
And yes, I'm a jazz musician - call me a deaf untalented prick, I don't care - and I do play several instruments, so I'm entitled to say STEAL MY WORK, just credit me if so.

What Varia did is still artistic. The warmth of the original track is given a new structure by the cuts and beat. The samples may not be original, but the arrangement and treatment of them is.
For what it's worth, I like the music. I think this should be allowed.
