I like the fact that the people who are least bothered with these copyright issues are the people whose musical output consists of glitchy noise. You can't rip that!

ps: I have no problems with remixing by itself, I just don't think *in the demoscene arena* it should be considered as a replacement for something truly original.

I disagree with copyright laws as they are right now, but that is beside the point. If the demoscene is an arena where everyone tries to do something that is at the peak of their capabilities, in a environment of competition no less, then only original content should be discussed.

If, however, you were to remove the competition element and release a demo outside of competition, I wouldn't have any objections.

This applies not just to the 'Agent' (which I think is kick-ass, regardless of the music) but it annoyed me even when 'State of Mind' and 'VIP2' got released. They are both excellent demos, but they had an unfair advantage in the competitions, so to speak.

Personally, I don't think it's such of an advantage to have such track in VIP2.. I really find this kind of music tasteless :D

Seriously, it's not about the limitations, it's about common sense and respect. And I'm very happy if a scener that can't play any musical instrument is still able to make kick ass remixes and link with the visuals of a prod. Just respect the people who you've stole from.

And yes, I'm a jazz musician - call me a deaf untalented prick, I don't care - and I do play several instruments, so I'm entitled to say STEAL MY WORK, just credit me if so.

What Varia did is still artistic. The warmth of the original track is given a new structure by the cuts and beat. The samples may not be original, but the arrangement and treatment of them is.

For what it's worth, I like the music. I think this should be allowed.
