Breakpoint 2010 - Like there is no tomorrow
category: parties [glöplog]
Wouldn't that be the same? Working on AMD instead of NVidia? Just do sotftware rendering and you'll be ok.
Today's internet connection speeds are getting so much faster all the time. Maybe it's time to demoscene evolve too. It's time to increase size of 4k size limit.
Thumb up for the new size limit (even more would be fine I think - the demo compo isn't about size limits but about cool content and effects!)
I agree on the ATI compo card suggestion too - it would cut down on the number of incompatible demos.

it would be much more work for the organizers, because nvidia users will try to fix stuff at the party...
blueflame, good idea!
blueflame... didn't understand the "increase size of 4k size limit"... at the moment, isn't 64k compo exactly for this?
I personally find 4k and 64k the most intresting PC compos... I don't really see why the limit should be increased...
Keep in mind that blueflame's comment might be a joke.
although I liked the 256kb dentro category: lifted from intro constraints one could do more demo-like stuff. sadly this category isn't very popular at demo parties..
Newer 3D apis (dx11 with both cs and geometry, dx10 with gs, ogl with gs), are more verbose and got fewer utility methods and therefore takes more space setting up. So if we want to move out of the dx9 era (or single fullscreen shader mode, which is quite feasible in dx11) it might be an idea... But lets see what ppl have done this time - I just canceled my geometry shader 4k some weeks ago..
blueflame: 4K it is
removing the size limits completely from the 4k compo might be a good idea; people wouldn't have to struggle with exe packers anymore then.
All we need is bigger kilobytes really!
I don't see much need to increase 4k/64k, quality is still rising. It's never been about getting full-demo-quality really (although it doesn't stop people trying ;)
The intro categories are for cool size coding stuff, the demo category is for people showing awesome effects and art in realtime. That's how I see it at least, and for the demo category any size limit is just moving the creator's effort from effects and content to size coding, I think that's misplaced effort. Of course many people don't ever hit the size limit, and some people will use it to fill their demo with badly written shit and videos, but it makes no difference to the former and the latter.. well, it's usually pretty obvious anyway ;)
And speaking of video, I've been thinking about some pretty cool ideas for a video-based demo. I think it could work well as a demo, but I'd need a few minutes of decent quality HD video.. 64mb wouldn't cut it. Not that it'll happen any time soon anyway, I need a 1GB+ video card first :(

nvidia will sponsor this year again. so using AMD hw is out of the question :)
"Sorry, but we don't have any GT200 based cards left (haven't produced them for half a year), and those damn reviewers haven't sent our only working GF100 cards back yet, but here you 2 nice GT240 cards for the compo machines" :D
i see no point in raising the 4k/64k limit. please raise the demo limit if needed.
I think we should lower the 4k limit to 2k, raise the 64k limit to 72k and set the animation limit to 2 apples and a pack of Marlboro Reds.
I think we should all finish our productions in the remaining days.
@Rouquemoute... indeed... i missed that point! ;)
deadlines suck big time :P
Yeah, forget about the size limit bollocks. Lets raise the deadline limit to May.
fuck i just realized that breakpoint is only 3 hours of car distance from home.
if only i had a car, more free time (dus less shitty job) i'll just pack some stuff, go to breakpoint, and make party with you guys...

so take the train, numbnut :)
It's not the hardware, but what you do with it, that counts ;_)
4 kilobytes intro compo
- size limit for the intro: 16 kilobytes
sounds awsm :D
