CPC sceners... help needed

i have just repaired my old 6128. I have only a z80 reference manual but i would like to code something for it... any advice?
Try to come in contact with Optimus. He codes CPC's.

Wain: For some reason, Amstrad home computers were very popular in greece in the 80ies. I had one too at the time. If I recall correctly, the greek home computer market was stormed by Sinclair, then by Amstrad. Commodore was a a steady third place. Later, the Amiga 500 came out and swept everything else out of the picture (Atari ST was not very popular).
Of course, 20 years have passed since then and those machines are only good for bringing a smile to your face for all those nostalgic moments you had with them. It's just that some people just won't let go.

I mostly agree with you because i owned a 8 bits computer too, but just don't make such assumption about the motivations of these people as this may not be a general truth. Some (many) of them never owned the original box when it was out 20 years ago (mostly because they weren't born or too young) and may find some interest in hacking/re-discovering these little computers today (same goes for the bustle about c64/spectrum/800xl or other 8 bits machines we can see nowadays) for the knowledge/pleasure or whatever.

Actually, I was referring to some very specific people who are known to publicly state that todays computers are crap, and that 8bit machines with very limited memory were and still are the best.
You may also replace that "8bit machines" with "single tasking operating systems", "VMS", "punch cards" etc. You get my point. I call this the "(I've) lost the train of evolution" syndrome and unfortunately I see it before me quite often.

moT: this is not very surprising. If you had a Spectrum, you could know each and every bit of it. Power at your hands. What do we all know about our computers? Just how to use them. That's it. Even programming is very, very high level, with dozens of layers written in between! We are only using something, with understanding barely the surface of it. On a limited machine, you are a God, you know everything.
About single tasking operating systems: i have seen a multitasking OS on Spectrum, running in intrrupt mode 3 IIRC. Was somewhat slow though. No wonder someone prefers single tasking OSes. :>>>>>>>>

At least I am still getting more motivated for coding on 8bit computers. Of course, I am not daring to compare old machines with a PC, but the fact is still there that PC sucks :)

In some specific cases these 8bit machines with limited memory still are the best. I work for a company which sells C compilers and assemblers for embedded processors, and we still make money with selling tools for these "old" 8-bit CPU's.
