Looks really ugly, fat, slow and uncomfortable to use.

I'd recommend looking into nvidia ion based things, those have a real GPU instead of intel GMA shit. Which means they can actually run some modern demos (not the highest end stuff though) as well as play HD video smoothly.

I doubt that it ever will hit the market. They planned mass production for July 2009, still nothing

as he needs some windows stuffz too he also runs windows XP Pro with it...

Depends on what you want to do with it.

I use a Acer Aspire One 751 when I'm not at home. For a netbook it's quite big with it's 11.3" screen, but I just wanted it because of the resolution of 1366*768 so I can at least use Photoshop in a decent way. I finished my compopicture at Buenzli with it and was fully satisfied. Note that the CPU in the current 11.5" netbooks is slower than the one in the netbooks with 10" or 8/9" screens. The Atom Z520/Z530 is slower performancewise but more energy efficient than the Z270/Z280 Atoms, but I'm quite fine with the performance. PhotoshopCS3 runs well and that's all I wanted it for. Mine runs around 8 to 9 hours on one battery charge which is awesome and helped me a lot of times when I was "on the road".

BTW: Forget watching demos except videos of it on any netbooks. The GMA is just too bad, but on the other side the netbooks were never intended to replace ordinary notebooks.

For e.g. Intel forbids the netbook companies to even use the Z270/Z280 in the 11.5" netbooks so they can't attack/replace the low priced notebook platforms.

So if you just need a nice small computer to work on some things for a long time without the need of charging the battery: A netbook is a good choice.

If you also want to watch demos on it. Forget it.

The ion stuff with geforce 9400m should be able to run at least demos from a couple of years back or so. Assuming they ran fine back then with "regular" hw.

kurli: no. if you want a good OS and performing hardware, you don't support Apple.

Check out for nVidia ION based netbooks, at least Lenovo has one coming out (or already has @ US of A)

Oh and there are rumours of dualcore Atom with ION netbooks. The motherboards are available (A330&ION) from Asus and Zotac

I have been using an Asus 901 for the past year (mainly for using at uni and wanking in bed under my bed sheets) and can't fault it. It originally came with a 4gb SSD (solid state hd), which was barely enough storage to run a stripped down WinXP installation. But with my new 64GB SSD upgrade, everything's now perfecto!

The 901 is the perfect netbook, imo. But, of course, don't expect to run any of the latest games/demos.

I am almost satisfied with my Toshiba NB100. I had to remove Linux from it, because it sucked big time. There are 'hard to use' keys on the keyboard, but it's not a big problem.
The machine itself is very lightweight (1kg), and the battery lasts for more than 3 hours.

Netbooks are shite. Get a proper laptop for the price of a netbook+10% more cash.

doesn't it really depend on what you need? :)
