I always assumed it were an old IRC and usenet convention for 'shouting'.
for example
"## wtf is ### originally from ? ##" is easier on they old eyeballs than what you typed.
... also it can indicate an action which cannot be expressed with the /me command.

anyway. me and people like (=lame IRC hackers who were basicly jealous of demosceners=) d00dz used this kind of message not as a joke, but as a threat in a day long gone. Sometimes we even made good on our threats. Did someone ever order pizzas to your house, and a message about it? It could have been one of my alteregos, or a member of my former club.
So I think the SoLo2 joke is in very poor taste. But probably just because I am a little ashamned of some minor unprovoked practical jokes I pulled on some of you around ten years ago.
I officially and formally apologize to anyone I may have confused or harmed all those years ago. I have made a series of demos about it. Can you guess which ones?

And you can quote me on that. I have of course had somewhat of an interest in all this sillyness. However after some crazy, crime related shizzle around 99-02 I went a bit nutty before running away. And getting my marbles back (luckly in prime condition) round 05.
So....
i shoulda seen all this coming a long time ago, but being the seed of an obscure cultural icon or two can make one a bit nutty. Indeed I have not been who you remember from ye olden times of 95-01 for [i]a very long time [obviously 8ish years now]. That is, the crazy person who may or may not have triggered this.
but of course i could just be having a FOO ATTACK! make of it what you will.
