Actually, I don't understand how the expression "word." meaned what it meaned..

I mean,. someone says something and the other one says "word.", meaning "I agree. end of discussion.". But why "word"? Then, I make fun of it and say "excel.", "powerpoint." "access." "M$ Office." =)
