hfr: ah, nice! it's become a bit of a habit to ask about the seminars, but it doesn't seem necessary anymore :)

The slides which where displayed before each compo entry also showed which tools/frameworks were used in the creation of the demo/gfx/music entry. Is this information still available somewhere?

Jua, it hasn't been included in the results.txt so, unfortunately it isn't publicly available.

gloom: you can't blame the organizers for the voting.

But you can blame them for not adjusting the results.

Shifter: Oh, so you talked to Okkie about the Extreme Ironing already?

I bitched about ASM 2008 "Extreme" compos on some blog before with that particular stellar image, but that's about it.

i'd think there's more point in questioning someones dedication to the demoscene if he hasn't visited assembly ever. :)

Well, look what outsiders have to work with. By the looks of it, it's not hardcore-oldskool-with-a-cart-inserted to like Assembly. Especially when vets make a rather elaborate point to stay outside the hall or avoid the whole event entirely.

"Well, we managed to avoid entering the hall entirely!"
"Oh, so it's that's bad? I'll make a point of not going then."
"...INFIDEL!"

It strikes me that so many people still actually seem to have some skewed ideas about what Assembly has become after all these years.

Assembly Winter is a testament to how much Assembly organizing needs the demoscene. ASM could become a full non-scene party at the wink of an eye without actually losing serious revenue or street cred with the majority of their attendees. If it wasn't for Abyss and the few outstanding members of the demoscene organizers being so damn invested into keeping the origin of Assembly a core interest, there would be no discounts on entrance fees, no overexposure on compos in the hall and no bending over backwards for esoteric platforms. The hill would probably have to go as well.

I'm not entirely smitten with Assembly as a whole, but there's no denying that the organizers are doing far more than some people give them credit for.
