Interesting machines

What interesting stuff have you seen?
I'm looking for stuff like real life 'effects', or a gadget, or a home made jet engine or one of those fantastic domino-like contraptions. Kelvins thunderstorm is another awesome example.
Any cool wildtros like this?

it seems that being prematurely old leads to forget the bbcode laws...

The 1000 Watt Guitar Ampifier (DIY-Style)
http://www.chambonino.com/construct/const9.html
This thing runs on 2.5kv and does soft tohard X-radiation while it amplifies (btw: -don't ask me why you ever want to build/play something like that)
1000 Watts not enough: Don't worry - the insane guys can do a guitar amplifier with 2KW (or 1600 W sinus) as well. Runs on 3kW and needs some serious cooling. (X-radiation comes for free)
Pictures of a prototype (dudes: just imageine how large the transformer is):
And here we see the anode-plate in action. The purple glow is somewhat of a mix between 3kW worth of electrons hitting a kg of metal and ionization of the remaining gas:
That thing is insane..
