hmm thats good for me, and one less awkward train hop to covent garden, so we could meet there and have a few then move on if we want to once everyone has arrived, its a good easy meeting point to get to :)

Have you read some of the comments on that site?

Not trying to put anyone off but I think I think "Current user rating: 3.9/10 (rated by 42 users)" says it all.

If you want my 2 pence worth I think All Bar One is just an overpriced Weatherspoons. It may be centrally weighted by population but that's also because it's smack bang in the middle of one of the countries largest tourist traps meaning it will be packed, probably full of gobby pin stripe estate agent types donning bleached hair and mullets. It will take ages to get served and when you do you'll get your change served up on a metal dish. Then again at least Keito saves a train hop :)

lulz, no no i do 100% agree with you mg, its an all bar one, always busy, always takes ages to get served, and lacking any soul, theyre the same everywhere, my point was that its the easier place for ppl to meet up for those that are comming from outside london or even from other countries... and then we can move on once everyones arrived, it was a place i wanted to stay in all night :)

i'm totaly up for going somewhere better to start with, i'm open, whatevers decided i dont mind atall :)

If Covent Garden is an "awkward train hop" away from Leicester Square, you're doing it wrong. The stations are only 340m apart (and the route's well signposted), so you're better off walking.

This was a public service announcement from your local tube nerd.

Sure, I know what you meant. Even the thought staying in that pretentious shit-hole all night would give me an anxiety attack! Anyway, here are my suggestions from the previous page...

http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/87/879/Marquis_of_Granby/Fitzrovia
http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/56/562/Lord_John_Russell/Russell_Square
http://www.randompubfinder.com/review.php?Name=The_Marquis_of_Cornwallis,_31_Mar chmont_Street&Pub=541

I've been to them all before so if we do end up there and the consensus is they’re shit then feel free to give me a good pasting!

…And as Gasman mentioned, cheap + London + not-a-soulless-Wetherspoons usually points towards a Sam Smith's. So, here are all the Sam Smiths…

However, I can only recommend the one in Maida Vale since I've either not been to, thought they were rubbish or can't remember enough to comment on the rest.

also while you're at it, any suggestions for some good bars/clubs after pub close! ? :)

I had in mind Funkin' Pussy, a breakdancing club :) Or perhaps Cargo which is much more laid back lounge style, big, spacious and with a seperate room with live music.

But at that point where pub closes and we move onto a night club i'll hopefuly of had a skinful and wont mind where we go atall :)

Somewhere in Covent Garden is a good choice.
Or there's the Crooked Surgeon just off L.Square or if you're into cocktails The Match bar near Soho is a lively place, but then there's always De Hems if you lik-a da continental mental! :D

Someone have the balls to make a call ;)

:D well the club part we can play by ear on the night and make a group decision with whoevers there and comming so thats cool, we'll probably end up at a few of them anyway, or in prison for the night one of the two ;D ... but yeah, the pub location needs to be finalized asap, typical ukscene last minute shenanhigans again :D

I put a quick poll out among the London web community's beer-with-a-slant-towards-Sam-Smiths gurus and there's no outstanding candidate so far (just a general feeling that beer gardens in central London are the proverbial rocking horse shit). Two recommendations for The Angel, Covent Garden but their beer garden closes at 5:15 which isn't too good, unless we make an early start.

Apparently other Sam Smithses with outside seating do exist (1 2 3 4 5), but with no personal recommendations to go on it's all a bit clutching-at-straws really.

So, given that the Lord John Russell seems to be the one pub so far that a real person has recommended, seems to tick all the boxes, and doesn't get completely slagged off on BITE, I think I'll give that one my vote.

I'm easy, so long as The Gasman cometh! :D

hahaha :) as long as the gasman doesen't cometh anywhere near my face then woot, go for it !! :D

So yeah the Lord John Russel (just linking it again for those that cant be arsed to look back) is fine with me, looks a bit low key, ie, will it be lively and not just full of ageing old men? But its fine to get the night rolling, and peoples definitions of a pubmeet probably vary wildly, but if mg recommends it, then i'm sure it'll be good :)

The sam smiths in covent garden near new oxford st is actually not a bad idea. Cheap and has outdooryness..

Come on lads.. need a decision!
added on the 2009-05-08 11:15:13 by MeteoriK MeteoriK
You mean the Angel? As mentioned above, that has outdooryness but only until 5:15. But if the weather stays as crap as it is right now, all this talk of outdooryness may be rendered moot anyway...

In the interests of being vaguely decisive, I'll keep my vote for the Lord John Russell.
added on the 2009-05-08 11:40:31 by gasman gasman
I vote Lord John Russel too. It shouldn't be packed and there's also a sheltered outdoor area.

Yeah the Lord Thingy sounds great. Time?
Is 3ish too early?
added on the 2009-05-08 15:57:38 by mg mg
hmm if it's sunny i would do 3ish no problem, if the weather is shit maybe 5ish is more reasonable :)
