Uk pub meet, May 9th

category: general [glöplog]
next time in stornoway!
Anywhere you go is central when the world revolves around you. But clearly, looking at the map, the logical choice for a pubmeet is about 15 miles south-east of Bristol.

Central on that map is actually half way between dumfries and belfast. Not the best place for convenient transport though, so I suggest a compromise: easy access by plane or boat - the isle of man! (Actually, that sounds kindof good.. maybe later in the year?)

doom: take the weighted centre (weighted by population and / or quality of transport links) instead, and london looks pretty central :)

smash, you coming?
well if you look at that map, Manchester is pretty much central england. Sadly anyone that isnt either visiting london by chance or doesnt live in london cannot make it with a weeks notice or "when giles has some free time". oh well..

dvs, why don't you take megabus/megatrain from manchester to england? it's insanely cheap, i had no idea that there is ANYTHING as cheap as this in england. :P or is there a hidden catch?

forest: like they say, all sewers lead to london. One day we'll build a wall around it, and put a sign up saying 'closed'. But first, birmingham.

Anyway, like smash says all future pub meats should be central weighted by population, not the isle of man.

doom, i meant the centre of london is in the centre of london (ie. good for transport links)

You were saying...? :-)

Euston = good transport link, and London has buses!
So. Are we deciding on a pub then? My knowledge of London pubs is nowhere near as encyclopaedic (or opinionated) as Meaty's, so I'll refrain from suggesting one except to say that cheap + London + not-a-soulless-Wetherspoons usually points towards a Sam Smith's.

I wouldn't recommend the one on Marylebone High Street (Angel in Fields) as the food is revolting and there's no outdoor area. The one off Maida Vale (Robert Browning) happens to be spacious and has a really good Thai restaurant upstairs that is reasonably priced.

Whether venturing into W9 satisfies the central weighted by population constraint, I don't know. It would certainly keep the Hoxton wankers a good distance away.

Another 2 close to Euston / Tottenham Court Road that I can recommend...
