Why non-artists don't understand art?
category: general [glöplog]
So ... Art is done only by Artists ? or not ? sure ? really ?
this discussion is.... booooooooooooooring
There. The guy in the picture understands. Look at him contemplating the depths of this masterpiece.
Sorry guys, you are all pretentious assholes for not enjoying!
Reminds me of this:

I really feel irritated. I myself have an inferiority complex when seeing ingenious artwork such as Tascha's because I know very well that I am not able to draw anything remotely close to the quality of her pictures. Why don't others feel the same?
Taste is different. This counts for art aswell as for barbeque meat. ;)
For me I almost give a shit about what others think about my pictures. Neither if they like my painting style nor if they like my motives. I don't paint for others. I'm just creative and paint what comes to my mind. Every painter/artist/whatever should do the same. If you paint and try to create what you think others like...it's not your personal art...it's just business.
"Understanding what it takes to produce art" and "understanding art" are two completely different things btw.
ryg: great post.
also, dinoriders are the shit, way better than starwars.

Let's make Bob Ross the new Chuck Norris!
I like some of her sketches. I wish I had enough energy to paint once in a while.
that picture there....the Starwars Rockers, where is it from? Who made it?
does anyone know, if there is a better Version with a higher resolution available?
...apart from that, I believe that "art" is a matter of taste. It is simple like that.
Maybe if you study art, this might help to understand the expression or message with which an artist wants to reach you. Even if you don`t like that particular piece of art. The rest depends on subjective taste.
I mean: I do NOT like "Cognoscere" for example. Say, I don`t understand the intention or message or anything at all and I suck because of that. But I DON`T LIKE it!
PS, Nosfe and many other people like it. But I don`t think because they understand but mainly because they like that style.
Quite a philosophic discussion that is not defineable or solveable by a final answer.

Skyrunner, here:
There's probably a bigger one somewhere. There's always a bigger one.

It is a poster, and it was done in 1998 by artist Hugh Fleming. Biggerer version. Apparently it was a limited edition print exclusive to the official Star Wars fan club, so they're probably collector's items now.
google.com + five seconds of your time = knowledge. Try it sometime ;) Oh, and guess what.. *sigh*

skyrunner, so you think i don't understand things that i've done? :D
doom: I also found that one but the colors are screwed. It can be undone but I don't know if Skyrunner knows his way around Photoshop. :)
nosfe: No, thats a misunderstanding, or I didn`t formulate that the right way.
I would never say, that you don`t understand what you do...
Well, at least I hope you know, what you`re doing. :O)

doom: I was too lazy to do so today. Because that would have meant five seconds less for watching porn. ;O)
But you are right of course.
...and THANKS a lot for this even bigger version of the picture!!! :O)

gr9yfox: Well, if I use google.com plus some hours of my time, then I might know my way around Photoshop.^^
But I`m pleased with the picture as it is.

tomaes, doom, gr9yfox: THANK YOU. Finally a discussion about art that really leads to something. (And, since I have a deeper understanding of art, I KNEW there must be Leia singing in the complete shot.)
Well, I was about to write a huge post but then I read the thread and saw ryg had just written what I meant to say. Not only so but in a very cool way.
My definition of art is simply "personal expression". Wether that leads to "good art" or "bad art" depends on who's looking. I believe nothing is beautiful for everyone and that having an opinion is good.
