The 2004 Elemental Music Competition will be kicking off March 1, 2004! The object of this compo is to compose a new piece of music inspired by, or which depicts, one of the four elements: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Information for the compo, including rules, awards, a discussion board, and such can be found at here: http://www.christofori.net/emc - The deadline for submissions is March 31, 2004. Best of luck to everyone who enters!
Totally exciting. So much like the Nifflas compo that handed out lamps(?) of different colors based on catagory.
Earth, Wind and Fire? Music compo? Scary.
havoc: my sentiments exactly...
(insert joke about arse symphony here)
i'd prefer a lamp over those things

Hello again.
If you are concerned that the "feel" or very idea of the Elemental Music Competition is copied from Nifflas' 2003 Spectrum Music Competition, please be assured that this was not my intention. I discussed my concepts and ideas for the EMC with Nifflas before finalizing the idea for the compo (in other words, before I did any work on it, other than pure thought and conceptualizing efforts). He thought the idea was great, and encouraged me to continue and develop it into what it now is. I have never had any intention of attempting to "steal" the idea from Nifflas. If anything, my basing the EMC on Nifflas' SMC is a form of flattery from myself to Nifflas, as I was greatly impressed with his concept in the SMC last year.
If your concern is that the EMC is only a materialistic competition, please rest assured that "rewarding" the winners from each category is not the end goal of the competition. The goal of the competition is to encourage and promote the creation of new, original music; and further, to reward all participants by providing reviews of their music resulting from the judging process that is built into the competition. Providing a "materialistic" reward for the winner of each category serves only as an incentive for each musician participating in the compo to do their best. Simply because I chose to present each category's winner with a tangible object in recognition of their work does not mean that I am attempting to "buy" participation, and I'm sorry if you feel that it does.
Regards,

Hmm... something tells me somebody is making a video game and still needs music for the waterworld:-)
not to mention the fire world, earth world, and of course, the air world. :-)

Trophies are a really cool idea btw. I was mentioning Nifflas's compo because it reminded me of his compo. Don't mean to say you're stealing his idea mate :)
Dalezy, don't be so fucking rude.
