Demoscene group project, non-commercial game?!
category: general [glöplog]
After watching some of the prods from numerica, I was thinking why doesn't everyone get together and do a kickass game to rival the stuff the bigwigs do?
I know a few really good games that have been made by sceners, but why can't some of ya pull together and do a killer game? If you can pull games/demos together in an event and make 'em kickass, think what you could do collectively and over time.
Just a thought. :D

as a game developer there's one thing i realized: noone wants to code (as a spare time thing) something that you want to provide support for or that's subject to change because of personal taste. a demo is a demo and if you dont like my demo, well, not my problem. a game, well... not that simple.
Why make games when you can make demos instead?
Yeah, why don't a bunch of sceners get together and start their own games company, make some cool games and then sell out to EA for a big pile of cash?
"collective" is not what we easily do, plus what gargaj said.
answer given, time to pouetize:
"kickass game".. "killer game".. a 3D hangman with solely superlatives?
that too
I think the OP has no idea what resources it takes to make AAA games.
great idea! ive got an amazing concept for a fantasy MMORPG, anyone want to make it for me?
tomaes: how hard can it be? Most c64 games were made in basements by one or 2 guys and they still own anything ever made on peecee and KKKonsoles!!!!
smash: yes! please send me an email and we'll take it from there
smash: will it involve an elf vomitting his guts out under a tree?!?!?!??!?!
i have a much better idea for a fantasy MMORPG, it's about a diarrhetic rabbit called "Flappie" :)
what about an online OMG ?
Even better, why don't all the games companies get together to go make a demo about it!!!!!!!!!!11111111
if (it=a diarrhetic rabbit called "Flappie")
then (xeron=right)
then (xeron=right)
a game requires at least a year of coding, a demo one could make in weeks (or a weekend depending on quality, libs etc)
depends on what kind of game you're thinking of.
MMOLARP
There actually are AAA games from the demoscene out already!
German standards of 'AAA' seem to differ from the rest of the world..
actually, inspired by havoc's words, here's some concept art:
