NVScene 2008!
category: general [glöplog]
i have that firefox-plugin "fast video download", enabling me to download flash-videos to harddisk... as a replayer "media player classic" works just fine, eventho these files are ofcoz still flash-files ( .flv ) on my disk afterwards !
if you use a different browser try to find some flash-video-download-plugin and some flash-video-player
or if you REALLY want these vids, just install some firefox, get the aforementioned plugin, download the vids, delete firefox again ( if you really dont want it )
you could also convert the vids from flash ( .flv ) to your desired format with some video-converter afterwards, if you want to watch them in your favourite player...

Or, you can wait until about May 2009 when I'll post the full videos on archive.org.
Will the sound be better than on demoscene.tv ?
probably not by an order of magnitude - less compressed perhaps.
Audio was cleaned up as much as was possible, sorry. I spent almost a week trying to clean the audio.
I forgot to post this when I came back from SJ... so here it is.
...i think the picture speaks for itself.
they look so sad, as if they are forced to work...
"Forced to"? I couldn't keep Gargaj out of the A/V-cage even if I wanted to :)
dude i had shit to do, i couldnt just prance around all the people from [insert company] like you :D
So yeah, I guess that was it for a while.
In hindsight, I'm still proud we managed to pull it off, surreal it seemed, and I'd like to apologize to anyone who had expectations for another edition. I hope at least the ones who got involved one way or another in the previous one are happy with the outcome.

NVScene'08 was by far one of the best parties I've ever attended. Let's hope for 2010 then.
At least Assembly will have some decent demo entries again.
tomaes: Yes, let's start that old flame-shit again, shall we.
let's do it for old times' sake :-) flame on my friends, flame on!
schpenna!
gloom: There's no "flame-shit". I'm not saying "OMG!! $$$ killed the scene", I was just recounting the fact that last years ASM demo compo was not all that exciting and that nvision had something to do with it, which is a point noone can argue, really.
in true zest style, i will reply to that:
YES WE CAN!!!
YES WE CAN!!!
Tomaes: you are totally right, NVidia is to blame, I agree 100%.
In my opinion NVidia is also to blame for the ASM07 64k compo, probably because people were already working on their 2008 prods, anticipating NVscene's announce.
Actually, the scene should even *punish* NVidia and refuse any future sponsorship from them at BP, Tum, Asm or any other demoscene related event next years.
Another thing we can all agree on: surely it's not the fault of unproductive people spending their time trolling and whining on Pouet instead of actually making demos to bring quality content to those compos :)

i'm happy to see nvscene gone.
keops, damn, you're right. The amount and quality of ASM releases last year certainly hadn't ANYTHING to do with another party in August 2008 drawing 20 quality 4Ks and 15 quality demos if just for the novelty value. I mean, one was in USA and the other in Finland, that's like TOTALLY FAR AWAY.
I won't join into any "NV killed anything" bashing, but you can't really possibly argue that NVScene hadn't had a negative impact release-wise on most other parties in the summer/early autumn timeframe. Of course the situation would have evened out even with a NVScene 2009 happening now that everyone's already got their free hardware and got a release on an American demoparty - but for that one year you could clearly see the shift.

Kb: I trust you're smart enough to read between the lines of my post, especially the last paragraph.

..which is why I was really looking forward to a possible NVScene 2009 - no more "omg! buying the scene!!!111"-shit, just focusing on the party itself. Sure, it might not have been the same prodfest, but it would have been really cool to see how it all panned out.
The question is: Even if/when it did, what difference does it make if NVScene has a negative influence on Assembly releases? Breakpoint has a negative effect on The Gathering's releases, Assembly probably has a negative effect on Evoke and so on.
The end result is: people in Helsinki got to party, people in San Jose got to party (and considering the state of the American scene, they sure as hell both deserved it well and partied their hearts out) and lots of quality demos were released and friendships made. And booze got drunk.
Make demos and release them wherever you feel like releasing them.

btw did anyone who entered a prod at nvscene get it used by nvidia (ie. shown at a show or linked for download on their site?)
