I'll give you my current view on this:

Under the control of the small minority that owns the majority of the wealth, and does not wish to be disturbed by riots. [ctd.]

scamp: Nice analysis. I haven't focused much on the financial part of what's going on in the world lately as that isn't my area of expertise. I have, however, delved into the nature of politics, and the picture I got correlates with yours.

Basically a minority fools, suppesses and exploits a majority. The system is designed so cleverly that many victims happily exploit themselves and then boast about it. Like, they go and vote and then believe they did a good thing.

I also thought some more about the BP theme. Basically I find that it lacks a hint of lightness or irony. It seems so dead-serious. I mean, isn't the point that WE are UNCONTROLLED and that's what we celebrate?

Anyway, I have recently decided to stop looking at the planet's dark side all that much. A very good choice, I'm extremely glad I finally made it. Thankfuly, I got out before the dark hole was able to suck me in completely.

conspiracy theories have a strong similarities to religion: For example, they both take what is complex (the world, society, etc etc) and simplify so that "anyone can understand how everything really fits together if they only care to open their eyes". Also, they have the same amount of hysteria around. I say it´s a naïve approach.

Uhum. Coincidence?!

Hyde: then again, not all conspiracy theories are necessarily untrue.

hyde has leading, but: conspiracy theories make for great entertainment. especially if done right.

stijn: facts stated in the framework of a theory might be true, but they are seldom presented as isolated facts. It is the blurring that happens in the wasteland between "the truth" and "nothing but the truth" that annoys.

uncle-x: sure, I love them too :)

Damnit, I just wanted to make a new demo using DirectX, and suddenly i realized that the whole SDK is full of .x-files - now I'm scared.

vibrator: In regards of the invitation being negative: The hint of lightness and irony will be at the party itself.

It's comparable to the "scene spirits taken"-story. It's two part. First chapter has been the invitation, second chapter will be at the party.

And kb is right. Stop worrying about if the party theme implies a negative view of the future and fucking go work on your releases instead. That's what a good demoparty needs in the first place.

Hyde: Looking forward to have some serious boozing with you. Straight forward!

vibrator: While I might not agree with the tone of scamp's message, I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

If they pull off the theme I think they're planning (a kick-ass satirical view of the current state, with future hope implying we're better than all of this) then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how Breakpoint turns out.

I, for one, am really looking forward to BP09 - and it's not because of the "party" as such, it's because a bunch of great people are going to get together, watch some demos, have some great fun doing it, and hell to pay with anyone who says otherwise.
