freedom of speech? hell no.

skope: sure, not everyone has to be FR. but there are tons of better, and actually funny, prods (even one from FR, btw). and in 'good old times', with sloooooow/no internet, and only parties to make your prods popular, BITS wouldn't survive long.

that 'if' instruction in my first post in this thread is nothing more than a natural selection

no, it's nothing more than majority "mob rule". a filter determined by the lowest common denominator of scene opinion.

unic0rn: That's a matter of personal taste really. What you find funny doesn't have to mean someone else does and vice versa. And yes, that's true. In the past they would probably have gotten kicked the fuck off every BBS on the planet. Thank god those days of "scene fascism" is over...
zyfros: you're right, in a way. if those are single cases, sure. but if a group has more prods, and every single one is a crap.. my point is just that people who don't wanna learn, should stay away from demoscene. it was always about doing better and better prods, and this rule is just simply violated by the fact that 'i can has internets - i can release crap'.

commercial stuff?. aren't you overreacting a bit? the fact that Bits put up demos for sale seems to be more of an infant terrible art project than something genuinely capitalistic.

A million years ago on my c64 and amiga, there are 20 or so demos that I remember fondly from then, and then I have a vague memory of about 300.000 productions taking up my diskspace that looked exactly like Bits, and made for -what I assume to be- the same reasons.

This newly found 'QA' of the scene, is tasteless, and bares no resembles of a scene where people would judge with their diskspace. Either it was worth keeping or it wasn't, but finding out if it was one or the other was never a problem. And this in a time where it took serious efford to get hold of demos, and the meduim of exchange was floppies and snail mail. But in the world of broadband, now it is a problem? really?!

skope: that 'scene fascism' wouldn't kick them in their ass if they would LEARN. but now they don't have to, and the question is: is it really better? imho, no.

unic0rn: I like BITS for just being BITS. If they got better and started doing serious, quasi-intellectual demos i'd loose interest in them. You are however, like any other human being on the planet, entitled to think they suck ass. And as are they to continue making "shit" prods.
iblis: i actually mailed solo2 about this - turns out that the demos on pouet are not the "full versions" and you can actually buy a full version.

Gargaj: LOL!
eebliss: exactly. there's obviously an underline long-running joke with this whole BITS club phenomenon. You either "get it" and appreciate their sense of humour ...or you're a dullard that takes everything in life literally and find it BITS "offensive" in some way. I find it amazing that anyone would actually interpret BITS "selling" their prods literally! Absolutely amazing.

BITS is a long-running joke which I, personally, find pretty funny/cute. If you don't find the joke funny, their stuff is pretty damn easy to avoid. It's not as if they're realising stuff under tons of different group names.

Holy hell, that makes it even funnier
if ppl like unicorn had their facist way, i would never have got a chance to see this brilliant prod: http://pouet.net/prod.php?which=50506

which is actually the FUNNIEST damn prod EVER released on the scene. You just have to "get it". which most people didnt. :P

Hahaha yes it is! I'm still laughing at that... :D
Makes me wanna buy a full version and CRACK IT!
BITS are not the only one.. and i'm not against BITS in particular, also, i don't think all prods have to be intellectual-poetry-mix-filled-with-high-end-multimedia, i actually do not find most of the FR prods entertaining more than once. it's just about some basic quality level, people were doing better things on their amiga with ecs.

and if it's just a joke, keep in mind that every single joke becames boring after a while.

Or the guy is seriously mentally challenged. Noone's keeping up a lame joke for that long (5+ years!) without getting tired of it.

unic0rn: That's true, and when that happens BITS will fade into silence. But for now, some people are enjoying it. =)
