I've been thinking lately and I reckon that most sceners are in the scene because they're hiding from something in the real world. Some might've been bullied, or were social outcasts or just drop outs (like me) and found the scene where they could get respect without people judging them on the way they look or their geeky attitude or low grades etc.

The scene is like a hideout where the geeks reign and can pretend to be cool, call themselves by cool nicks and get respect from other people.

Everyone thinks Optimus is the only loser on pouet but I'd bet most people here don't have much more interesting lives. Id also bet most of the arrogant assholes in the scene are total crybabies and nerds in the real world.

The problem is not whether Optimus is a loser or not. He is a big boy now, it's his life, he does whatever he wants with it.

The actual problem is that he is constantly polluting this site with his life. Every single aspect of it, no matter how uninteresting it may be. And this, I'll say it once more, is not a site about Optimus. It's a site about the demoscene. So it is logical that when I visit it, I want to read stuff about the demoscene. Not somebody's life. There is soap opera and blogs for that.

The first paragraph makes a bit of sense as well, but I'd like to add a bit to it. These days you don't have to be a geek to get isolated by the so-called society. You just have to differ from the mainstream a bit. Musical taste, preferred movies, hobbies... Go to schools with a Slayer T-shirt, and guess what, no one wants to be your friend anymore, no matter who you are. (Note that this is reasonable if you cut the same thing in your forehand a day before :)
Face it, "society" sucks. And that's why scene is a relief.

i got beaten up in school because i had geek glasses.
then i came back beeing a fake-goth and everybody anxiously bowed down asking if they can buy me candy. case solved. beeing a scener didn't quite help there.

as for optimus, whatever had to be said has been said already. maybe it's a logical step to avoid the pouet forums until the boring nothingness goes up in smoke.

i'm not hiding from anything, i'm just dead beat cool!! i joined the scene to make it a cooler place!!

You're being to general. I personally think there is a lot to Optimus beyond his posts, such as why he posts what he does. He sees a trend, then makes his own opinion known in the way of questioning that trend. .... but really at this point the only reason Optimus posts are fully commented on is because people want to post something. It brings out what people's characters are.

Pouet in itself is quite arrogant in regards to its BBS. Users have gotten into a habit of shitting rather than absorbing.

So all in all, I agree to disagree with you. But I hope that things could only improve community wise site wide.

I'm just tired that everybody non-oldschooler knows better people like Optimus, than people like... PSI, Vogue, Wildfire, JMagic and whatnot (just examples). It's a shame that most people joining the scene and starting browsing pouet might think that people like Optimus get to be more known than others than actually did something. Scene is all about being known, and trolling, or 'blogging' on a demoscene forum is the worst way to do it. I've just decided not to reply to Optimus anymore when he is not talking about the scene, or just bragging and trolling about it, and keep on-topic, for the sake of pouet's "point"
