If you want the full video, go on ahead, there's a link on the top of each page, and when I impliment a embeded player, you'll get that there as well. Wasting CPU/Bandwidth/Etc, eh.. what you get back is waiting time. :P Phlix isn't ment to replace everything, just be another tool.

Sidenote: The codecs in AS idea: That sounds like a interesting project, Alchemy can make it somewhat quicker to try out. Sure, slow as heck, but it'd be cool anyway.

Wow. That's some nice website micksam! I somehow agree with both gloom and Gargaj. It's a waste of CPU time but still an awesome idea! :)

And now the ultimate idea: Take the zip with a demo, kkapture it on the server and stream the resulting video (both in realtime) via the flash player. :D (I know it's quite unrealistic idea but I couldn't help myself).

oh, and hook some emulators please so that anyone can get a dose of C64, CPC, XL/E, ZX, DOS, ORIC, ... demos.

I'ma check out that m4v issue, seems ffmpeg doesn't like reading it [the downloader followed the redirect fine, but ffmpeg didn't like the file for some reason].

As for adok - seems my server or scene.org was a bit delayed, because it works fine now.

So, 2 months later...

I had to create a few protocol handlers that could seek around a file for the encoder, atm it only works for http.


HTTP streaming should work with nearly everything now. Except playlists. [Gloom: Your link actually was a mov playlist/redirect file.]

FTP streaming only works with specific formats. Other formats will timeout.

Once I get basic functionality of h.264 and ftp 100%, I'll start coding work arounds for specific formats.

though unlike others i'm quite pessimistic about the general interest of such a service outside the demoscene as online videos tend to be more and more 'natively' flash, as 'original' versions (mpg, avi, mov, mkv etc...) stay on local storage or are shared through p2p or web storage services.

the service i'm using almost daily is the reverse one: http://keepvid.com.

For sites like xplsv.tv, which feature a lot of MOV-files, this works great for people who don't have Quicktime (a lot, it turns out).

Seems like the video was cut off by a connection reset. In any case, qu-int.de seems to be very, very slow streaming to the US. I'ma see what I can do about the video cutting off, though.

Micksam, some of the criticisms here (well questions more like) are based on the PC centric world. One of the big problems in the set top box world is streaming random internet videos and decoding them in real time. The CPUs in stbs are too weak to do conversion and so only low level hooks into hardware are generally used. Also donwloading as such is not always possible (no hard drive for example) The chips support mpeg2,4 and in the near future flash video (some already do, eg BCM).

Right stop babbling. The point is a scalable service offering conversion might be _very_ saleable to that industry. I know the scalable service part is at least as hard as getting it working but nontheless. It sounds like you are creating EXACTLY the solution they need.
