Sad, and the way to do it is really disturbing.
Very sad to hear this. RIP.
It's nice that the demoscene has one of the most diffuse and distributed systems of self-archivism and documentation in the entire history of online culture - we've got 20+ years' worth of nicknames, textfiles, images and music, so people like sobec will never be forgotten.
People mentioned helping others: everything we contribute to the scene helps somebody, and maybe what we get in return is the scene keeping our names alive in the ether if we die...

I wonder if this (as it has not been the first) occurrence makes us think that all of us in the demoscene need to work out where we are failing in terms of supporting fellow and lady sceners who are as involved ?
I was of the impression that the demoscene itself contained many people who became close to each other as friends, which is something I believe - but with this kind of thing happening, maybe we should do more.
Only thing is, what exactly can we do more of ? Most of the sceners I know can discuss with me nonscene life stuff and get advice etc.
Once again, rest in peace, Sobec - and let us hope that we can, as a scene, learn to discover where our collective shortcomings are and save future sceners from takiing their own lives.

Maybe the wrong place and time to say this, but let's face it: The scene has a suicide problem.
That ought to be no big news for those of us who are long-time sceners or ex-sceners and have kept in touch with the scene. So no big news, and no big surprise either. Blatently speaking: It was about time again.
Maybe we should discuss this topic in three month or so, when those who knew sobec personally aren't as moved anymore..

I don't think the scene has more or less of a suicide problem than society in general, it's just that we're a very small and close-knitted community, therefore the ripple-effects are more noticable.. :(

it took me some days until i could write this condolence message... these were quite shocking news for me on sunday night. These are very touching days...
RIP my friend. i still remember the first time we met years ago, all the fun we had together, the beers, the parties, phone calls, all the stuff we did in SKP. I definitely will miss you forever.

"breakpoint organiser of the hearts"
