that promo video is fucking scary! but i saw a video interview with the developers and they're saying very reasonable stuff, about the need for laying down ideas quickly. the engine sounds like a Bayesian thing searching loads of instances of what chords have been put under what melodies in all kinds of sheet music over the years, which is pretty dope. the style patterns and samples are supplied by apparently decent 3rd party companies, so it isn't strictly the devs' fault that the output sucks so bad!

like, big big tracks happen in a similar way anyway - if you doubt that some sweet and successful pop tunes start off as a shitty sounding skeleton with a repetitive beat and rough chords, you'd do well to remember that Rihanna's song Umbrella has an Apple Loop used straight up as the beat - unchanged and untreated. its like, start with a song on a piece of paper, turn it into a shit song in Logic, throw money and talent at it until its an awesome song

If you want to scare off everyone from the partyplace, yes, do a songsmith compo.

songsmith seems to have difficulties with my style of "singing" (i guess it's more an arab war scream) :P

Just to keep you updated: Website launch had been delayed as ryg has moved to a new flat and german telekom fucked up, leaving him without internet connectivity. This should be solved soon. Website will be launched before the end of January. Invitation should be coming sometime in February. No drastical changes expected for BP09, so book your flights if you haven't done so. Again however notice that early arrival this time will not be possible due to explicit organizing (reasons will be made known later, they are rather funny), IOW you can not arrive at the party location including the parking area before Friday morning, no exceptions.

And everyone who arrives without a ass-kicking production obviously will get shot, and sofa sceners should move their sofa to hell where it belongs.

Ah yeah, and we will officially delay the party end on Monday a bit, so we don't have unofficial delays for the prizegiving and organizers are able to get a bit of sleep after partying after the compos end. So try to book flights not leaving Hahn or Frankfurt before 16:00, to be on the safe side.

Wahey! Plane ticket ordered. And it's even on the right days (unless they decide to move easter this year - the Breakpoint will no doubt follow and it will all end in disaster).
