New Outreach Reports Posted
category: general [glöplog]
I've recently completed demoscene outreach events at SynOrgy Decompression 2003 and First Night 2004. I've written up reports for both, along with some pictures. The scene is alive!
Pretty impressive.
Basically what you call an "outreach event" is a demoshow with some speech to clear things up and a lot of promotional stuff? (I'm a bit confused.)

Good job again Rich !
Cool stuff, other than hosting a party yourself this kind of approach is great, and judging from some of the merry pranksters in the pics, the events are well suited to the psychedlic escapism that is the demoscene :P
keep it up !
keep it up !
Gargaj: I'm not sure what you mean by demoshow, but an outreach event is designed to increase awareness of the demoscene, actively get new sceners involved and increase attendance and participation at Pilgrimage.
Weyland Yutani: I host the demoparty Pilgrimage as well as doing the outreach; the latter is designed to help the former.

I am well aware of that, Rich :)
Great stuff, most stateside friends think I dabble in screensavers on the side, so there is a lot of work to be done ;)

Weyland Yutani: I think that's the biggest difference between US and Euro scenes; in the US you have to actively explain the demoscene in order to grow it.
rich,
1) a demoshow is someone showing a series of demos to some other people. on a party, for instance, or at totally unrelated events.
2) in europe we also have to actively explain the demoscene to grow it, except that nearly nobody really bothers :)

Rich, i'm curious: How many people attended First Night 2004?
sir RICHARD kbab: hey that looks kinda cool, keep the scene posted on your progress, I'd like to hear about it.
ChaosCom: average attendance to the whole event is 50,000 people; I'd guess that about 100-200 people came through our exhibit, but we didn't try to count them.
