tracker to control syching?

i used a similar system at some point. but it involved loads of trips to the tracker and back. okay on a pc.. but on a singletasking oldschool box, it wasn't everything i hoped for ;)

behringer control fader (BCF2000) is able to send 10 bits. it doesn't need any drivers, so you can connect it at any XP computer without trouble. it's quite big so it takes a lot of desk space. it costs around 200€. the motor faders move real fast, but somehow i suspect them to fail after a while...

Aye, works really well. As Quisten writes, just check out Texas, Regus Ademordna or Scyphozoa for examples.

earx: Our sync-tracker uses a network connection to connect to the demo, so it works on any system you can hook up to that. Lord Graga and Skrebbel even integrated it into a GBA-emulator, and used it for a couple of GBA demos :)

And you don't have to go back-and-forth between the tracker and the demo - it all works WYSIWYG.

btw wasn't the Texas tool presented at nvscene ? i don't see any related seminar video.

Zest: There is no "Texas tool", there is GNU Rocket, the synctracker by Kusma and Skrebbel which was integrated into it (an easy job really). Anyone can integrate it into their own demo engines to control objects, post processing, camera etc.

There will be a feature on the synctracker in the next issue of ZINE btw.

Zest: you are probably thinking of the tbc / loonies tool, which is something completely different from what we used. We actually keyframed the whole thingy (possible by optimizing the parameters manually to pack well, that was somewhat a hazzle, but it worked).

kusma, you got any screenshots of Rocket? I've found myself on the sourceforge page a few times but I don't have a Windows machine to build the source on. It's sounds like a very interesting idea.

gloom: Yeah. Also, in reality, you get a lot more mess since you have like half a million tracks going on :)

Gargaj: Yeah. The reason why I did that was that I didn't want to loose data if the demo crashes (and let's face it - it will), so it needs to run in a separate process. Then it was down to picking a communication-model, and sockets seemed logical.

gargaj: Stop focusing on the tool and start focusing on the result. :) This is the demoscene - if it works, it works. It doesn't have to be elegant ;)

oh this is elegant, no question - just very very unusual :)

gargaj, that also means you can run the demo on a separate machine from the tracker - such as an amiga or GBA :)
