Zest: not yet. but, i do like the scenery and videos i've seen.
(well they do know how to make stunning landscapes)

Not a video game, but oldschool japanese animes (and games also) had pretty hand drawn and painted backgrounds.

I thought Outcast looked awesome in its time (1999).
Looked up Outcast on Wikipedia. Seems like a really awesome engine, especially for its time. I wonder if it could be HW accelerated with todays modern GPUs.

chrome also provided some tasty forest sceneries with some scifi background (and abyssal characters & story...)
