How does sceneID help me

category: general [glöplog]

No one has said how SceneID is going to improve my interaction between demoscene portals. Why was it implemented and why did Pouet choose to adpot it along with scene.org?
1. Pouet is located on scene.org -> easy interaction.
2. SceneID will eventually be connected to stuff like OJ and Slengpung -> no need to register everywhere, just input your SceneID, and voila.

lol

well, basicly, it's one account shared more or less "securely" (i haven't checked how it's done, but i trust the scene.org & pouet.net ppl) amongst the two websites.

one account to log in in both sites, so it's simpler, nicer, funkier, happier ..

slengpung could use it also when it comes back online.

it could also be used on ojuice & nectarine, though they probably want to keep their user base, but they could allow sceneIDs to log in to their site..

we'll see how this idea evolves.

i think it's a nice idea, as long as scene sites don't require a .Net Passport, it should be ok :)

Has it been confirmed that Ojuice would take this on?
Yeah so it unites lots of scene pages, but I still don;t see the benefit except its a few less passwords for us to remember.

no idea about oj.

but seeing they display demoo's latest selections and pouet's latest submissions, they don't seem to be against joining with other scene sites.

it's of course understandable they don't want to lose their user base.
we will see,
they could provide a merge feature, like first time you log in with your sceneId on oj, it asks for an existing oj account and then it's linked or something similar..

just leave chandra the time to do that if he wants to..

As far as I've seen Chandra doesn't have time to edit Ojuice and as it is Ojuice runs smoothly on its own with its automation and selected news/image filterers.
Basically, the ojuice database and sceneid database could be merged but it will be a major, major, major undertaking. Many things to consider, bandwidth, server load, the 3 types of merges (sceneID only, ojuice only, and sceneid/Ojuice both), the different amounts of information stored in each, which password do people keep, this that and other things. All things to discuss and consider and, eventually, that will be done.

Just don't expect it next week. (: Don't even expect any deliberations on it next week. Or next month. Just, there will be deliberations eventually, in time, when things are ready.

(And I'm just talking about the Nectarine side of it. Nectarine and Ojuice share the same db server. I don't know what Ojuice has beyond the Nectarine DB - I just know the Nectarine DB is a major major major major undertaking. Ok I'm going to shut up now before I make the joke I want to about Catch 22. Oh god that's a horrible, horrible joke.
i expect it last week.

I wouldn't mind sceneID if it had an OJuice backing.
Will demoscene.hu also adapt it? Just to let the local losers know that there's a world scene outside.

scene spice? hmmm we need to start seeking spices from the orientals. Fetch me my ship.
Tomcat: why are you asking this on pouet? send a mail to trajic or aboy :)

Don't get your hopes up too high..Ojuice still uses the Microsoftian approach to databases, and they've not very change-prone as of late.

I wouldn't mind if they did though ;)

doesn't change much tho, the dataexchange can be protocolled (which sort of means that the site can use ASP, PHP, CGI, or whatever scripting they want)

Why would people care at all? except for the 'won't ever keep you logged on through cookies' thing, not that it has changed anything at all about how one uses pouet.net (if you don't use scene.org features or anything).

Coding threads were much more interesting =)

I'm pretty used to this kind of stuff at work, and I have to give it thumbs up. It was about time.. =)

patrick groove, so far sceneid doesn't improve much of your interaction, especially if you use mostly just pouet.net. however in the future when we got more sites using it, it starts to matter. have just one login for several scene portals, edit your user info once and it's updated everywhere etc.

we haven't discussed yet with ojuice about this, and if it happens that sceneid & ojuice userbases and systems merge at some point that won't be too soon. the amount of work needed for that is simply so huge i don't even want to think about it right now. :) however out of the bigger scene portals you can expect noerror and slengpung start using sceneid still during this spring / summer.
