Do you like GBA stuff?

category: general [glöplog]
rarefluid, if you at some point manage to make captures of GBA demos, make sure to turn OFF any kind of interpolation/filtering when upsizing to some common resolution. it was a bit of a downer for me at breakpoint (my first gba prod), the whole thing was one big blur.

Good point. I already use a nearest-neighbour filter when upsizing low-res demo videos for wurstcaptures.

Got my card from dealextreme today. got hold up by customs a bit. Note that it seems like this thing HAS NO RTC. I don't know if it is used in demos? but I thought you people might want to know. This type of cart is called EFA "simple" or "LC"...
The REGULAR 2.83 drivers you get from the EFA.cc site (haha. fuckheads. 100% börken links...) or somewhere else won't install for this cart! Use these.

Further testing some time this week...

jsyk.

Had time today, because I have a bad cold and called in sick. Don't ask me why, we summer here and >25°C outside. Maybe its the chicken flu...

Anyway. Tested it with the regular "five finger discount" version after cleaning the carts' contacts, 'cause they were heavily oxidised. working properly now.
I've got this feeling that carts are not top-notch quality, but we'll see...

Sorry if this had been raised in the pouet BBS earlier, but what is the SFC endorsed flashcard for GBA, and which other cards can match its access speed/wait state?
Do you know if these cards are good? I might get one and the cable because the site is in greece and delivers at home.

optimus, the seller appears to be from greece so i wouldn't trust him

Hmm, i've been using a 3-in-1 expansion pack in my DS. Less hassle than programming a linker, but you loose the timings, and it's a DS to begin with.

I'm looking for a GBA (regular or SP) video-out thingie. Not those TV tuners, but a proper video-out. I know those exist, but can't find them on EBAY or the internätz anymore. I maybe want to expand my video activities to GBA also, so I'd be much obliged for any hints concerning the matter...

ravity(page3):
the hardware tricks from gba came from snes , very not interesting to work with as so old and wellknown.
when we was working on gba stuff , gp32 just arrived , and when we saw what was possible on gp32 , it was a dream for us.

The computer you choose is up to your taste , it also show your taste .
It's really up to you to look clever by using strange computer.

rarefluid: I bet you could find gameboy player for gamecube much easier than one of those.

sauli: hush, he was having so much fun looking for a really weird way to solve this and now you've spoiled it by giving him a really REALLY easy way.

Also, shame on us for not mentioning the GB player for GC earlier.

that would involve getting a gamecube. which sucks.

Not really, since I bet you can have them for ~€40 or less in your local used-stuff newspaper.
no

Oh, I'm so sorry. I checked my local used-stuff-lamer site, and the lowest was €53. And you even got awesome sales text starting off with "hi my name is johannes and i wanna sell my slightly used game cube with a controller and a memory card and five games the games are:"

Kids on the internet is wonderful!
In my local newspaper there are no offerings for Gamecubes...
Hand that video-out for GBA over, already!!! ;)

Ok guys. I got a video-out for my GBA for 40€.
BUT:
- Quality is good. I might need to reinstall the rubber-thingy used to grab the signal from the display connector as there's too much blue in some images.
- It is NTSC. Most demos seem to use PAL, which gives lots of tearing. So I'm still looking for a PAL version. If you happen to have one and want to sell it or know where to get one, tell me.
- The cable is much too long. It is about 3m or so. Stupid. I might shorten it. After all the GBA can lie next to the computer, so 0.5m should be enough.

S-Video output is a lot much better than composite btw.
I used an relatively cheap USB capture card that can do PAL and NTSC and it works good.

rare: There is no PAL / NTSC on GBA. Everything is 240x160 @ ~60hz (close to NTSC on the refresh rate). I've got that same thing, and making good captures with it is quite tricky... Oh well, if you find a good way, please let me know :)

So how do you capture your stuff kusma?!

Small questions: I have that cartidge from the greek seller now. Many demos work, some others don't. I should be coding something for it but I am playing Castlevania now :P

..the question is: Can I somehow upload old gb/gbc roms in it and make them run somehow? I upload them and they don't work directly. But I remember my GBA can read gameboy classic cartidges. Maybe there is a small GBA application that can load old gameboy roms out there? I'd like to watch the gb/gbc in the almost real thing without needing to buy another cartidge specifically for gb/gbc.
