w3m is also a good textmode browser. works really good.
if you've got an winxp and an nvidia card and the nview part of the drivers activated, you can activate transparency per windows with the window context menu, but i'm not sure if you can set the amount of transparency, and the menu doesnt seem to show up for example in google chrome, but for msie it works.
