Good Bye Nectarine

That makes sense, definitely. Except if Yes want to rebuild everything from A to Z because he can't resign to give up the baby. Something I somehow understand.
Whatever the decision, tie that bad-habit-of-not-having-regular-backups-on- hands to a rocket and fire it to outer reaches of the galaxy. ;)
Keops: frankly, I don't know. Ask him personally on his website, which I think has comment-features. I'll ask him though if I catch him somewhere. But the harddisk recovery is also important for the mp3 database which doesn't have anything to do with whether the website should be light or heavy. Also, no one asked people for money (Yes wanted to pay for the data recovery on his own). The people asked whether they could donate somewhere.
Yeah, we definitely need the database and mp3s back either way....
but whats the point of a HDD recovery if there's a backup, even if late?
i probably don't know enough about that to be able to answer that.
actually, you can delete the "probably" in that sentence.
from what I understood the backup is on the HD that crashed, the other backup is too old...
The other thing is: Having nectarine back soon might be better than waiting for it to be rebuilt and running in (optimistic) half a year. We know how things usually go... Like, uhm... doing finals for example ;)

AFAIK on the crashed HD the sources are stored. The older backup has only the database and MP3s, but no sources (webpage).
Turk1sh H4ckerz!!! kills demoscene.
fyi http://demoscene.fm will bounce to revival.scenemusic.net using my own hosting for now. This will start once the dns propagates.
Hope the data recovery throws something back. I do some data forensics as part of my job (we dig through the media of bankrupts looking for evidence to present in court). Provided the partition containing the source uses a relatively modern filesystem, was not significantly modified (e.g. new files written) after the delete, and the delete was done with standard methods (unlink rather than wipe or format) you'll be able to get nearly everything back in tact. Also source files are relatively small so you stand an even better chance of successful recovery as the files will likely be in contiguous blocks.

Good to know, when the cops bust down, use FAT16 :P
you're the guy from CSI?
I'd like to see you using the whole of a 1TB drive then... ;)
Hmmm... :-(
I am very sad to see this kind of thing happen. Good things are allways to worth of preserving. Bad that some persons in this world wants to destroy others good achievements >:(
Hope that Nectarine will come back sometime in future again..

owned... :P
We can handle fat16, but if you use xenix we're fucked. CSI it ain't.
@dubmood or RÜ$$14n h4xxer$
Insectecutor: do you ever bother looking at a drivecrypt or truecrypt partition ? :p
Turk1sh H4ckerz!! Nationalist Power 1 - 0 Demoscene
Zest: nope. Most people would rather hand over their encryption keys and passwords than take all the bullshit the court would put them through for withholding them.
hehe but drivecrypt features a nice addition : you can hide a whole other OS inside an encrypted disk so that you have 2 passwords : one you can give after some bluff (or torture attempt ;) and which leads to midly interesting documents, and another really secret one for the hot files! spy grade i would say :D
So, Yes is about to restore the HD:
He needs a team for the NuNectarine:

First i need to check 2 hd.
The server one (250 GB) could not contains the mysql datas as they were in a idata mysql file and this file contains some other websites datas i hosted. So the file moved after the database deletion. But we can restore the 64 Gb of mp3 as i saw it with some utilities. But i prefer to ask a company to restore everything. That the biggest part of Nectarine and it will be a shame to lose everything just coz i wanted to use a freeware software ...
The second HD is mine, which crashed last week end. I bought a new one so i don't need money for it ;) I just need money to restore the MYSQL .SQL files on it (Two backup from august and july).
Here is the estimate of the price.
To send 2 HD to the company : 32 € x 2
Restoring the full mp3 directory from DISK#1 : 5 € / GB (320 €)
Restoring 2 .sql files from DISK#2 : 200 €
Testing 25 % of files randomly : Offer
Testing the whole two .sql files : Offer
Price to send 2 HD to me again : 32 € x 2
So ...
64+320+200+64 = 648 euros 7 % of Paypal taxes when you donate = 45,38 euros
As Chipin is in $, the exchange rate for paypal right now is
1$ = 0,688 €
So we need (648+45,38) * (1 / 0,688) = 1007 $ exactly
I'm waiting for the 2nd and the 3rd Estimate at the beginning of next week.
He needs a team for the NuNectarine:
Quote:
The TEAM (you need to be motivated By FULL OPEN NECTARINE PROJECT !!!)
At least 2 coders with PHP skills and secure coding
At least 1 Mysql administrator with skills on optimizing and security.
1 coder with Win32/MacOSX/Mobile phone skill (to code applet / iphone access etc ...)
1 Streaming / Compression format coder (linux coding capable)
1 security expert to check all creation / modification
1 hardware platform with 2 server (1 for streaming, 1 for web & mysql) or a big one for everything. 100 mb/s up / down is the best Hosting capabilities (as electrical reboot, backup solution etc ..)
