creating percussion sounds and sequences for demos

anita is cute but 2unlimited is as techno as say britney spears :P
before anyone says 'techno' or 'house' again, please study Ishkur's Guide to electronic music.

guybrush: quite incomplete and generalistic. but its a nice idiots guide to electronic music yes.
and it's a lot of fun.
and of course it's generalistic. it applies labels to art. is there another way?

that guide describes gabber as "ny style hardcore", and doesn't mention either rotterdam or amsterdam... WTF?! can it get any more ridiculous?!
so? oh and check out the examples for "dutch trance" :)
the example tunes for "ny hardcore" are 2xbritish, 3xdutch and 2xamerican (not from new york...), so i don't expect too much ;)

\o/ for babelfish :)
skreble: ah ok, so art == techno in your book. note taken :)
no, techno \in art
I use Battery2 for single hits and Vemberaudio's Short Circuit for breakbeats. The latter one is a free download from vemberaudio.se, and is an excellent sampler that can be used not only for beats.
Both these are VST instruments, in case there's any doubt :)

just wondering, is there any point in using a sampler vsti in a program like renoise? i've never checked it out really, but i never really understood how one program can play a bass drum wav better than another. is it all about super mega sharp cosine interpolation and add snappy noise buttons?
skrebbel: it's probably about how you can alter the sample(sequence) in a nice way, if it works fine for you in Renoise, I guess that's great, however a VSTi plugin may add functionality to alter samples, that Renoise doesn't have pr. default.
For simply replaying the sample as it is, I guess there's no point in using any VSTi

@skrebbel:
I don't know renoise, but I use my sampler for chopping, filtering, loops, layering, amp/pitch/filter modulation, fx (filter/distortion/flanger/all the stuff) and so forth. I basically load up a breakbeat as a single wav-file, and do everything that's needed in the sampler.

Technics SL-1210 MK2 -> Protracker
lug00ber: whoa! nice and free stuff :D
I start renoise and begin freaking around with sequences and filters. There is no golden path that I always use, but I do start from a concept, atmosphere or vocal sample.
white noise... "khrrrrr!"
guybrush apparently hasn't spoken with me about electronic music before.
