NVScene 2008!

category: general [glöplog]
auld2: on the official site i read
"Multiple versions of the intro supporting various resolutions is permitted, but at least one of them has to run in widescreen, preferably 1280x720, which is the version that will get shown."
so you should be ok.
Anyway that's an nvidia event with the cream of the crop in terms of GPUs, so don't worry about being too slow. If it ends up being too slow then you can do like Crytech and proudly say your shit is too hawt for the current technology.

talking about technology.... I only see 4K and demo compos in the rules/prizes/schedule. Where are the music, gfx, wild, and most importantly *oldskool platforms* compos ?

i don't think nvision ever pretended to multiplatform... it's a pc party much like X is a C64 party, or glucholazy an atari8bit event.. nothing wrong with that.

nvision is trying out itself first ;)
so 4k and demo-compos are a start...just to see how it goes ;)
and the preferred resolution got changed to 1920*1080 because they´ll have a huge-screen comparable to the one at breakpoint !

so the 1280*720 is still valid, because its widescreen, but preferred res = read above.

if your intro wont run fluid,i guess the orgas will show the smaller-version anyway !

as soon as nvidia starts manufacturing amigas... :)
(i wonder if the consoles with nvidia chips count tho)

I wonder if you could simulate the c64 hardware in a state machine in a texture... then process state steps with gpu.

who cares about raytracing in CUDA, we want emulation in CUDA!

why not,GbND =?

its ofcoz possible if you manage the timings for PAL/NTSC etc. on EVERY machine :P
by curiosity, how is nvscene integrated into nvision ? who will really see the demos on the bigscreen ? will the compos be relayed on like an internal tv so that all nvision attendants could see them ? who will vote ? only nvscene audience or potentially every nvision attendant ? is there a jury ? will there be a strong intranet and beamslide system like partymeister or similar ?

curiosity kills me.

zest: The whole of NVISION 2008 takes place over a large area in down town San Jose, pretty much a city block I think. There is a movie theatre, a museum, a conference center and more. Take a look:

BB Image

NVScene will be in the "Convention Center", which is separated into a lot of smaller sections inside, one of these will be the home of NVScene.

With regards to who will be able to see the compos, it depends on what kind of ticket you have. There are quite a few tickets that allow you to got back and forth between the different areas, and only the cheapest ones restrict you to one particular area (I *think*, I'm not entirely sure about that last bit).

If the intranet will be "strong" I can't really say :), but there will be an intranet - NVScene will use Partymeister.

I don't know if there is an internal TV-system (like at Assembly), but there will be different types of NVScene promotion going on around the clock at different venues across the entire NVISION 2008 event.

With regards to who will be allowed to vote -- I'll get back to you on that, because we're still not decided on that.

Shoot.. we don't get our own building anymore (Parkside Hall)? Oh well, probably for the better, more traffic.. as long as the gamers aren't in the way. :)

thanks gloom for your explanations and your honesty about the remaining unclear points.

i don't want to stir the generic debate about vote again but please make it democratic enough (not jury-only), that's the less worse system :p

Zest: Being in the US, we will most likely implement a state-by-state electoral vote system. Good news for visitors from Florida!

lol, then use expensive voting machines which are going to be such a failure that you'll end up with a show of hands :D

state by state electoral vote system, aha! the true motivation behind the RVscene bustrip is revealed! :)

Since remote entries are allowed, remote voting would be sooo cool...
added on the 2008-08-20 14:24:55 by magic magic
nah magic, that's not fair for those who physically attend the party.

besides remote voting is sensitive stuff, you would need a bulletproof system that should not be implemented in a hack rush.

zest, i know, i know, it just would be so cool if it *could* be possible with a bulletproof system.. (was the remote voting of the intel compo bulletproof?)

ofcourse the visitors should vote to than next to the remote votes..
