Maybe several sceners are just atheists because they think... logically?
Maybe the sceners who are not atheists choose budhism because all the other religions suck and budhism has some interesting philosophy or maybe because it is a trend, the only cool religion that helps you get laid? :)

@havoc: sure. Zen is about finding your true nature. Who are you? Where are you going to? Where will you be when you die? This are all important questions. And if you wanna know, you may try cutting your thinking and have a look what is there, because the mind cannot answer these questions.

spoke: expanding your knowledge is a smart idea ofcourse, but i just honestly doubt if finding one's self is a good thing by definition- to a lot of people it will be useful, but to some others it could be rather dangerous (and not just for themselves). also, if too many people find themselves in rapid succession, it may lead to (temporary) chaos.

Thing is, if you ask yourself "What am I?" or "What is this 'I'?" honestly, you will find out that there is nothing such as an 'I'. It is just a concept of the mind but it is not real. And if you stop being attached to your idea of 'I' there will be no chaos, but also no order. Chaos is also just a concept of your mind. It is not your true nature. Your mind makes this 'chaos' (this idea of whatever chaos is) and at the same time it makes the opposite: order. So, without chaos no order. But this are all just concepts and have nothing to do with true reality.

@havoc: yes, you're right with what you said. But you are not consequent. As you said, the mind cannot capture true nature. The mind makes just some concepts which describe a part of the reality (@aharonid: like physics is made be mind, it explaines also just a part of reality).

But also your 'tiny reality' is made by your thinking and not true at all! It is also a concept. And you may strongly believe in it.
