For me entering Rob is Jarig in a demo compo is like posting scat porn in an otherwise decent discussion on here.

"Rob" is extremely Vista-incompatible.. Wont run as administrator or in compatibilty mode. In the end it might die out when all compo machines migrate to Vista :-)

Don't any of you serious demo makers get disheartened when joke demos outplace you in competitions?

I think out-placing is rarely a problem, but if you're someone entering your first production and it gets a luke-warm reception and then they play that degenerate crap and a bunch of people get up and start dancing... Well, that's not cool.

Also, I wouldn't consider Rob is Jarig degenerate crap if it hadn't been abused so badly. Its original intentions were genuine and it had its place, but what the people submitting it again and again don't consider is that repetition is rarely funny. I guess they're too busy thinking "LOL!!! THIS IS A JOKE THAT I UNDERSTAND AND AM PLAYING A PART IN!!!" to realise it.

parapete: there are more than enough perfectly valid excuses to disqualify rob is jarig in any decently organised democompo, and nobody has ever complained when the prod actually got disqualified (which has happened several times). the person who enters the demo does not decide to play it on the beamer and does not have enough keys to vote it #1. if you think RIJ is similar to scatporn, evoke and all other parties that allowed it on the beamer are giant scat orgies- either that, or it's all just innocent fun. :)

Yeah I guess it is all innocent fun, I just find it deeply tedious. I'll leave you Dutchies to it since you seem to have some affection for it. You can be sure that if I entered Shane-tro by Fearmoths into competitions until it won you'd probably stop thinking it was "innocent fun" quickly... :)
