fix me beautifull

category: general [glöplog]
venom: replacing with an empty file is pretty much a no-no, it's equal to destruction of the database and i'm here exclusively to improve it.

however, if you post a link to a version of the nfo with only the reallife name removed (like the updated nfo's in the archives of your other prods), i will be more than happy to replace the current nfo with that.

Some fixes for our prods.

Origami:
New platform list: FreeBSD, Linux, OSX, Windows
If it's possible to somehow signify the 'native' platform, that was Linux.

Organica:
New platform list: FreeBSD, Linux, OSX, Windows
Native platform FreeBSD.

Stick Animation Engine 4000:
New platform list: FreeBSD, Linux, OSX
Native platform Linux.
There is a video available here.

Also, group Juippi is an artifact from year '02 or so when one of our entries was incorrectly reported. It can be safely removed.

where are the downloads for all those ports?
added on the 2008-08-06 16:18:09 by havoc havoc
They're included in the tar.bz2 files. The intros compile on those platforms, but each tarball has a rel/ directory containing at least one binary for each OS listed. The tarballs are hosted on my computer.

doesnt look like the organica download has a windows binary included.. and is it correct that the stick animation one has one binary that works for all those platforms?

dyndns? sorry, no can do. please upload elsewhere (scene.org, untergrund, etc)
added on the 2008-08-06 18:08:23 by havoc havoc
Sorry, forgot to update the archives in the web directory on my server. Done now. Stick Animation Engine still does not have the OSX binary since the friend with an OSX is being lazy, it'll be there as soon as he's done with it.

If any of the intros have download links to dyndns, that is wrong/obsolete. I have my own .fi host called faemiyah.fi, and the links of all of our entries should point there instead. This would mean the links are:
xbox - Ust Nap - piNp - Origami - Organica - Stick Animation Engine 4000

The tarfiles currently downloadable from scene.org are the ones released at Assembly parties. They are incomplete and do not contain everything they should, such as alternate binaries or the intro sources. If you have a policy against linking archive files from anywhere besides scene.org or the like, then I'll need to work on uploading updated versions therein.
added on the 2008-08-06 18:51:35 by Trilkk Trilkk
afaik there is no such policy, but it can't hurt uploading the finals to scene.org anyway (easiest way is to create the directory structure leading to said parties in /incoming and putting <original_filename>_final.zip in there, they'll be moved by the admins in no time).

you gain eternal access to your work, even if russia nukes finland including you, your computer, your hamster, and that server

nope, we just try to avoid unnecessary layers of insecurity/stupidity such as dyndns, excessive advertising, delayed downloads, "right click to save as", and whatnot. none of that seems to apply to the direct download links you provide now, so i'll get round to checking/fixing after dinner.

i have to admit that skrebbel speaks words of wisdom there, however much it hurts my arrogant oldschool elitist soul ;)
added on the 2008-08-06 19:07:25 by havoc havoc
but that doesnt mean you've no reason not to fix those links right now :)

except for that juicy steak i'll get out of my oven right now :-) brb

skrebbel, I have nothing on you. Uploading the final sources-included versions to scene.org now.

But it'll probably take a while, so it's probably unnecessary to change the links from those I provided. Assuming Russia does nuke Finland at a point or I get mugged to death and my landlords sell my server, then you can change them!

that's the idea. then again i'm just an observer too here - havoc is the gloperator.

trillk, i *think* everything is now fixed according to your requests :) if i'm wrong, let me know. :)

Almost!

Stick Animation Engine 4000 is still missing the video.

And it seems group Juippi still exists?
added on the 2008-08-06 20:18:32 by Trilkk Trilkk
trilkk, ok video is added too now :)

about that orphaned group, i don't have the access necessary to delete groups, so if nothing goes wrong, one of the admins will drop by to check this thread soon, notice the message i left in my previous post, and act accordingly. if they overlook the message, either you or me will remind them with evil grins on our faces after their next post on this thread ;)

gormio: your downloadpage matches requirements (links should be visible directly upon opening the page), so i changed to that. until you should decide to change the page or remove it, we'll stick with this solution :)

That is just great! Thank you very much havoc

I shouldnt have added this,
please delete it

stijntje: i disagree, asm compo orgos don't respect the tradition of the demoscene, that's the real problem here... i'll leave the prod as-is until we figure out a more fitting way to solve this issue.

gormio, my pleasure :)
added on the 2008-08-06 21:33:20 by havoc havoc
Well if you want to keep it you could change the name of the 4k procedural gfx category to something like "executable gfx" instead, since the "4k" is already implied by the prod-type and maybe someday parties will have a 1k gfx compo or so.

But that prod I added doesn't have any kind of executable in its zipfile at all, so it still wouldn't really fit then.
added on the 2008-08-06 21:49:13 by stijn stijn
stijntje, agreed, but at the same time it would also suck to have only half of the compo entered in the database. that'll inevitably lead to confusion of some sort, for example people adding the rest of the compo with the best of intentions (like you did), and us subsequently having to remove it again, etc etc. at the present time, i simply do not see how to implement a suitable solution given the tools available to me as a gloperator. i guess this weekend in cologne there will be ample opportunity to discuss a suitable solution with at least 1 admin and several other gloperators... so stay tuned :-)

havoc:
as the independent doesn't really seem to make sense. can you please change this:
Fried Bits 93 invitation from the independent to Channel 38.
Independent Music Disk #1 from the independent to Channel 38 & Newline & Risk.
Independent Music Disk #2 from the independent to Risk.
Independent Music Disk #3 from the independent to Lazer.
Indy Mag issue #01 intro from the independent to Lazer.
or do you have any suggestion how to define them any better? at least this were all more or less coprods.

seppjo: i agree, indeed we don't have a proper structure for supergroups such as the independent, the union, etc etc. to keep the memory of this cooperation preserved somehow, perhaps it would be nice to make a list of all prods released under the independent label (as can be seen under the "lists" button in the top bar, have a look at "havoc's demology" for example ;)). that way, we can not only put prods, but also parties (fried bits, dan's lustige kinderfest, etc) and individual members (if they have signed up on pouet) in a nice overview.

but i need a little help with that ofcourse... i was in the same scene as you ofcourse, but you were much closer to the fire, so your assistance would be much appreciated. plz let me know if you agree with this solution :-)

http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=51186 not really a procedural graphics entry. nothing is generated during the runtime :) please remove unnecessary and unrelated entry...
